There are usually two groups of people who like and love Succulents. Group 1 are those who say succulents are hardy low maintenance and easy to take care of succulent plants. They’ve got a seemingly endless supply of plants either at their work desk or at home, and every single one of them seems to be happy, well taken care of and beautiful. One might even see them as an expert in taking care of succulents in Singapore.
Then there’s group 2, they are usually the type to make their plants turn black and mushy. To them, Succulents are notoriously hard to take care of in Singapore but at the same time. And people like them would hear stories about many people talking about how succulents are hardy. And easy plant for beginners to take care of.
Now that you’ve figured out where to buy succulents in Singapore. We’re here to educate you on how to take care of succulents in Singapore! Whether you are from group 1 or group 2, we’re here to show you a basic guide on how to take care of these gorgeous plants!

Take care of Succulent Plants:

First things first, time to throw away the idea that succulents are plants that don’t need to be taken care of. That’s even a beginner with zero gardening skill would not be able to kill. We’ve had so many customers telling us that they’re looking for succulents that require zero care in an environment without light or ventilation. Try to realize that these succulents are still living plants and would require the basic elements in order to sustain life.

Alright now that we have all the misconceptions out of the way, here’s how to take care of Succulent plants in Singapore! We’re going to cover 2 topics in this blog post. Watering and Environment.

This is one thing I’m sure we’ve always seen from guides and online tutorials. You’ve always heard instructions about how you should always drench the entire pot and plant in water till everything drains out from the pot’s drainage holes, around once every couple of months. And armed with this knowledge, you decided to try it out on your lovely succulent babies… Only to have them turn black and mushy within days.
Those instructional videos and tutorials aren’t wrong per se. But it’s just that they are meant for people who live in temperate climates where the temperature and humidity are much lower than what we have here in our sweltering humid Singapore. If you were to drench the entire pot with your poor succulent in it. The water content in the soil would not be able to evaporate in time due to the high humidity content in our air.

Best Succulents to Take Care:

Instead what we would recommend is around 10 to 20 ml of water, once a week, directly into the soil. This way, your plant will be getting the moisture and water it needs to survive. But it wouldn’t be too much so that the roots will begin rotting. Also by increasing the watering frequency from once in a while to once a week. Your plant will look healthy and fresh always!

Succulent plants generally prefer well-ventilated places that are bright and dry with relatively low heat. Unlike other types of plants that prefer to be exposed to the elements such as harsh sunlight and rain. The succulent plants prefer to be kept indoors away from harsh temperatures or wet conditions.

They however still require a substantial amount of sunlight in order for them to maintain their form. Thus, we would recommend them to be placed in an air-conditioned environment with ample sunlight. So, that they will be able to receive enough sunlight yet be in a low enough temperature. So, that the succulent plants will not be damaged by the intense heat from the sun.

If it is not possible for you to keep them in an air conditioned environment all the time. We would certainly recommend them to be placed under growth-lights in a room-temperature indoor environment. This way they will be sheltered from the elements yet receive adequate lights for them to be happy and healthy!

Of course, these aren’t the only thing you have to pay attention to in order to successfully take care of succulents in Singapore. Becoming good at caring for succulents is a skill that constantly needs to be honed, with hours and days of trial and error for best results.    Hi Succulent Succulents, I would like to know if Echeveria can survive Singapore’s humidity? Because I read up that succulents generally don’t like humidity.

      Hello Jason, Yep certain Echeveria are able to survive in Singapore’s humid weather.
