How to Link AdSense to YouTube Account

This is an article that shows you how to start the YouTube channel monetization process and link it to your AdSense account to receive payments, using a web browser. After verifying your account and accepting YouTube’s monetization terms, you can link your AdSense account in Creator Studio to receive ad revenue and payments. You can also start the monetization process and link your AdSense account right away, but you must meet YouTube’s minimum requirement of 4,000 watch hours and 1,000 subscriptions to enable monetization.

Start the YouTube channel monetization process

Access YouTube from a web browser. Type or paste https://www.youtube.com in the address bar, and then press ↵ Enter or ⏎ Return on your keyboard.

Click on your profile picture in the upper right corner. You’ll see a menu appear with a thumbnail version of your profile picture in the top right corner of the page.

If you are not automatically signed in to the channel, click the blue SIGN IN button in the upper right corner to sign in.

Click the Your channel button on the menu. This is the first option in the displayed menu. Your channel will show up on a new page.

If you see a Creator Studio button on the menu, click it to see the Creator Studio dashboard.

Click the blue CREATOR STUDIO button in the upper right corner. You’ll see this button next to the CUSTOMIZE CHANNEL button in the upper-right corner of the channel. The control panel appears immediately on the screen after the click.

Click CHANNEL in the left menu. After accessing Creator Studio, you will click on the CHANNEL tab in the menu on the left.

Click the Enable button in the “Monetization” box. With this, you’ll see the steps to set up channel monetization show up on a new page.

If you see “Ineligible” under the Monetization heading, you’ll need to verify your account and try again.

Click the START button. This is the button that shows up next to the first step under the “Apply for monetization” heading. The “YouTube Partner Program Terms” window will appear on the screen.

Tick the first three boxes

Click the blue I accept button. It’s the button in the lower right corner of the currently displayed window. With that, you’ve completed the first step of the monetization setup process.

You can now link your AdSense account to your YouTube channel.

Click the blue START button next to “Sign Up for AdSense”. After completing the first step of the monetization process, you can link your existing AdSense account or create a new account in the second step.

Click the Next button (Continue). When you see the message ” You will be redirected to AdSense… ” (You will be redirected to AdSense…) under the “Monetization” heading, click this button at the bottom of the page to open AdSense.

Select the Google AdSense account you want to link. You will be asked to select a Google account to create an AdSense link with the YouTube channel.

If you select a Google account that doesn’t already have an AdSense profile set up, you’ll be directed to the page to create a new AdSense profile.

Click the blue LINK TO YOUTUBE button. This is the button at the bottom of the AdSense page. This will link your AdSense account to your YouTube channel and return you to the Creator Studio page.

Once you’ve linked your AdSense account, you can continue working and complete your monetization profile, or go back and complete it later.

Complete the monetization process

Click the START button next to “Set monetization preferences”. After linking to AdSense, you can continue to the third step of the YouTube channel monetization setup.

The screen will display a new window with monetization options.

Make sure the “Monetize all existing and future videos” slider is enabled. The slider will turn blue when enabled. When this option is enabled, the entire video will be monetized and you will receive ad revenue.

If you disable this option, your entire video will not be monetized unless you actively enable monetization for certain videos. You will have to enable monetization for each video on the VIDEO MANAGER page.

Check the box next to the type of ad you want to use. The first option (“Display ads”) is required on all channels, and other forms of advertising can be turned on/off here.

Overlay ads will show ads below the video viewed on a computer.
Sponsored cards will show square ads from the sponsoring company at the end of the video.
Skippable video ads will show skippable ads before the video starts.

Meet watch hours and subscriptions requirements. Your channel’s monetization application process will be officially reviewed by YouTube once you’ve had the minimum number of watch hours and subscriptions. Your channel will need at least:

4,000 watch hours in the last 12 months.
1,000 followers.
