An analog watch is a watch whose display is not digital but resembles a traditional watch face. Join lassho.edu.vn to learn more about analog clocks and how to recognize it!
What is an analog clock?
Analog is a term in the watch industry. “Analog” in English means “similar” meaning they use repetitive movements to represent information in this case time.
Analog watch refers to all watches that display the time by means of a rotating hand on the dial , as distinguished from digital watches that display the time using electronic digits.
An analog watch usually consists of a movement that produces the characteristic ”ting ting” sound when the hour, minute, and second hands move across the dial. The hour hand is shorter, larger than the minute hand, and the minute hand is longer, thinner the last smallest is the seconds hand.
The three types of dials on the dial have fixed markings.
Numbers on watch faces are denoted in many forms, often as regular numbers or Roman numerals . Some watches do not mark all points but only markers like 12, 6, 9, 3 o’clock.
Between the hour markers is the minute marker, which is usually much smaller than the hour marker.
Working principle of analog clock
Currently, analog watches often operate on quartz movements (quartz) or automatic mechanical movements.
Quartz movement (quartz)
The movement of the watch consists of a battery, quartz crystal and gears . When the battery transmits electrical energy through the quartz crystal, the crystal vibrates at a constant frequency , transmitting movement through gears that help the hands rotate on the dial.
Quartz movements require very little power, so the watch battery lasts a long time, possibly up to several years.
Automatic mechanical movement
Mechanical watches are composed of hundreds of components that are assembled together to form a unified movement that transmits kinetic energy to each other.
Energy is transferred into the watch by winding the mainspring or from the rotor .
The mainspring is made of thin metal, the mainspring coils and then slowly unfolds to pull the gears to move and then transmit to the clock hands, helping the clock hands rotate evenly on the dial.
How to recognize analog watch models
As such, all wristwatches with hour markers are analog watches. You can choose from many analog wristwatches with many designs and functions in many different price segments.
Hopefully with the above article you will understand more about wristwatches to choose the right watch for you!
