There’s an unwritten rule that says all smart home devices must have trouble with WiFi connections at some point.

So if your Simplisafe system is stuck trying to connect to your WiFi, you’re not alone. You could try the seven troubleshooting steps suggested by Simplisafe, but there’s a much easier solution that works almost every time.
It involves—you guessed it—resetting your Simplisafe base station.
Simplisafe Not Connecting To WiFi
To get your system to finally connect to WiFi, follow these steps:
- Disarm your system and unplug the Simplisafe base station from the outlet.
- Flip the Base Station over and use a Philips head screwdriver to remove the battery cover on the bottom.
- Remove the batteries and set them aside.
- Plug the Base Station back into the wall.
- Try connecting to WiFi again.
- Once your system has connected to WiFi, you can put the batteries back
Once your system has connected to the WiFi network, you can place the batteries back into the Base Station.
The batteries in your Base Station are rechargeable and are there to make sure you’re protected even if there’s a power outage.
However, the fact that your Base Station has a battery backup means that just unplugging it usually won’t help. You need to remove the batteries as well in order to get the system to reset and reconnect to WiFi.
Updating Your System Firmware
If your Base Station or another component has been disconnected from WiFi for a while, you may receive a notification in the app telling you that you need an update.
After resetting your Base Station using the steps above, you will need to wait for a 60 seconds or so before you are able to begin an update.
These updates typically take 8-10 minutes, although they can occasionally take up to 1 hour. This depends on how many updates need to be installed to bring your system up to date as well as your internet speed.
Wireless Interference Detected
If your Simplisafe Base Station is having trouble maintaining a connection to one of your sensors or an accessory like a keypad, you may see the “wireless interference detected” alert.
This is not a WiFi issue. Instead, this is usually caused by a weak signal or interference from another device, such as a garage door opener, remote, or radio.
It’s a good idea to check the battery levels in your keypad and other accessories, replacing them one by one to check if that might be the issue.
Alternatively, you can relocate either the keypad or the Base Station to another spot in your house or office to see if that resolves the interference.
What You Need To Know
Your Simplisafe might get disconnected from your WiFi network if there’s a power outage, a software issue, or if you recently changed your network settings.
In most cases, it will fix itself within a few minutes. However, if your system gets stuck connecting to WiFi, you can easily troubleshoot it by resetting the Base Station.
In addition, your Simplisafe system will need to be connected to a 2.4GhZ network, which uses a lower frequency that can travel farther and is more reliable than a 5.0GhZ network.
