How To Make A Simple Sugar Syrup | Georgia’s Cakes

- 250g salted butter, chopped
- 250ml (1 cup) golden syrup, plus extra to serve
- 190g (1 1/4 cups) plain flour
- 150g (1 cup) self-raising flour
- 100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar
- 180ml (3/4 cup) milk
- 2 eggs, beaten whisked

- Preheat oven to 160C/140C fan forced. Grease a 19cm square cake pan. Line base and sides with baking paper.
- Place the butter (250g salted butter, chopped) and syrup (250ml (1 cup) golden syrup, plus extra to serve) in a small saucepan over low heat. Cook, stirring, until butter is melted. Remove from heat. Set aside for 10 minutes to cool.
- Place the plain and self raising flours (190g (1 1/4 cups) plain flour|150g (1 cup) self-raising flour) and the sugar (100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar) in a large bowl. Add the milk (180ml (3/4 cup) milk) and eggs (2 eggs, beaten whisked) and stir until just combined. Gradually add the butter mixture, stirring until smooth and combined. Pour mixture into prepared pan.
- Bake cake for 1 hour 15 minutes or until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean (see notes). Allow cake to cool in pan.
- Serve cake warm or cold, drizzled with extra golden syrup.
