In the world of Sea of Thieves, no title is more coveted than ‘Pirate Legend.’ It is the highest honor in the game, and reaching it is far from an easy task. Players who complete the grind will be rewarded with access to a unique area, new shops, and loads of new and exciting challenges that other players don’t have access to.

Players looking to achieve this feat must fully commit to carrying out tasks and commissions for different trading companies. There is some freedom in how players can choose to tackle this; however, the community has identified the most optimal path. After this, players will have to purchase a few select promotions and speak with a mysterious NPC to earn the Pirate Legend title.

How To Become A Pirate Legend In Sea Of Thieves

Leveling Up With Trading Companies

In Sea of Thieves, there are a total of eight trading companies that offer players different challenges, allowing them to earn gold and emissary in the process. By doing so, players will level up within each company to a maximum level of 50. As the first step to reaching Pirate Legend status, players must get to Level 50 for three of the eight trading companies. Leveling up isn’t hard, but it will take some time.

The trading companies to choose from are: Gold Hoarders, Merchant Alliance, Order of Souls, Reaper’s Bones, The Hunter’s Call, Bilge Rats, and Sea Dogs. The eighth trading company will not be available until Pirate Legend status is reached. It is totally up to the player which three they choose, but the three generally agreed to be the easiest are Gold Hoarders, Merchant Alliance, and Order of Souls. However, if a player has already made decent progress towards any of the others, it may be worth continuing with those companies.

Players must pursue quests and voyages for the three companies to level up. These can vary from commissions for particular resources to bounties for killing certain types of enemies. So, players will still experience a lot of what the game has to offer as they carry out these quests. Slowly but surely, players will work their way up the ranks to Level 50, and they can track the progress of each company in the pause menu.

Purchasing Promotions And Talking With The Stranger

After reaching Level 50 with a company, players will have the ability to purchase the Level 50 promotion. It’s worth noting that promotions like these will become available regularly as players rank up. Purchasing promotions will introduce newer, more rewarding quests, making the whole process faster. Players can buy these promotions from the trade company representatives at outposts.

Players must purchase the Level 50 promotions for all three companies they are grinding for. After doing this, players are one short conversation away from earning the Pirate Legend title. Head to the tavern at one of the outposts and talk with the Mysterious Stranger. It’s the man towards the back of the tavern with glowing blue eyes. By talking with him after purchasing the promotions, players will achieve the Pirate Legend title.

Perks of Pirate Legend

After speaking with the Mysterious Stranger, players will be rewarded with the Legendary Clothing set and the Shanty of Legends, which can be used to access the Athena’s Fortune Hideout. It is the location of the eighth and final trading company, Athena’s Fortune. The entrance to this hideout is a short walk away, in the center of the tavern near the stairs. Players simply need to approach this spot and play the shanty on one of their instruments to open the hideout’s entrance.

In Athena’s Fortune Hideout, players have loads of new shops to check out for unique items not purchasable anywhere else. Players can also buy Legendary Athena’s Fortune Voyages, opening up a new selection of quests to try out. Players can get these by speaking to the Pirate Lord in this very hideout.
