As a new segment on WhatSamWatches, I will now be doing more informal reviews/commentaries on what I’m watching. And it’ll include shows I’ll be rewatching just because I feel like it. I know I just did a review on Private Practice not that long ago but I’m not ready for it to be over. So I’m binging the show from the beginning all over again. So since I rewatched the second episode last week, we’re now onto the third episode of Private Practice.
In Which Addison Finds the Magic
- It’s strange how Violet’s so hung up on her ex, Allan, for pretty much all of season one. And we never learn much about him or their relationship.
- Another thing we never learn much about is Pete’s relationship with his late wife, Anna. All we really know is that Pete met Anna when he took time off from Doctors Without Borders. Then, instead of going back, he got married and settled in LA. But somewhere along the way, Pete ends up hating her. And just as a reminder, we learn all this via Violet, and Meg, Pete’s girlfriend in season two.
- I wonder if the writers ever considered showing us flashbacks of Pete’s life. Or any other characters’ lives before they joined the practice. Namely, Violet, Naomi, Cooper, and Sheldon. We’ve seen plenty of Addison’s past. And we’ve seen glimpses of the Bennett’s, Amelia’s, and Charlotte’s pasts. But we only know about Violet, Cooper, and Sheldon’s pasts from what they’ve said to other characters.
Addison and the Rain
- I would never have the confidence to just leave my things outside like Addison. But then again, I do live in Seattle where it rains a lot.
- I find it odd that Addison didn’t at least wear a sweater or a light jacket. She knew it was raining but she wore a purple blouse. Plus, it must be raining pretty hard for her to be that soaked. Assuming she drove and didn’t walk.
- I just realized Addison changes her outfit. But it makes sense since her other clothes soaked through. And it’d be pretty unprofessional to see a patient wet. So, even though her outfit choice was questionable considering the rain, at least she brought a change of clothes.
Doug and Karen Adams
- Poor Doug. I love that they came back and gave him a full story. Even though it ends pretty tragically.
- I know Karen has an autoimmune disease (Weener’s disease, yes I had to look up the name) but that’s a lot of blood.
- Karen really loses a lot of blood in this episode. And I’d be grossed out if someone coughed blood on me. But I guess that’s why I’m not a doctor.
- Sickness can really make or break a couple. And in this case, they aren’t that great together as it is. No wonder things don’t end well for them.
Naomi and Dell’s Cake
- I’ll admit I have a sweet tooth but Naomi eats a lot of cake in just a couple of days. And I can’t believe Dell really got to her with cake. Or more accurately, cakes.
- Even though Naomi eats a lot of sugar in this episode, it’s understandable. She’s using food to suppress her feelings. So, at least it’s relatable.
Cooper’s Blue Patients
- Cooper’s first patient looks like they doused her in blue chalk.
- Then, when the other kids come in, they’re not nearly as dark or opaque.
- Dell may have done the wrong thing with Naomi and the cake but he’s right about Cooper’s patients.
Jeffrey and Kathleen
- I remember Jeffrey and Kathleen. But I wish we knew whether or not they actually had a baby later on. We know they tried some new procedure to help them create an embryo. But we never find out if it worked or not.
- Kathleen and Jeffrey really are the sweetest couple.
- I feel like Addison’s resistance to Pete’s alternative medicine is probably how a lot of doctors feel about alternative medicine. But Addison definitely opens up to cooperative medicine after this.
