Arby’s gyro meat turned out quite well. There was a nice bit of garlic and herb flavor to go with the lamb and beef combo. It was moist with a slightly denser than meatloaf texture, which is to say there was just a slight bit of sponginess to it but it wasn’t as coarsely ground.
As is typical of fast food chains, the onions didn’t have much of a bite to them but were still good for a watery crunch. The lettuce and tomato were fresh as well as crisp and firm, respectively.
The tzatziki sauce wasn’t runny and offered a tangy, creamy yogurt base along with an additional dose of herbiness.
While their flatbread isn’t as thin or hearty as a pita, it has a higher moisture content and pillowy crumb that’s less prone to cracking or falling apart.
Overall, Arby’s Traditional Greek Gyro turned out really well and satiated my gyro craving completely (unlike
their roast beef and turkey versions
). For the price and convenience, I’d recommend trying it, especially if you get the occasional craving for one. I wouldn’t mind seeing them keep this one around.
