‘Pokémon Sword and Shield’ Galarian Slowpoke: How to Catch New Pokémon
After the January Pokémon Direct a new update for Sword and Shield was released, giving trainers a taste of what’s to come with the Expansion Pass.
The Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra will be home to Pokémon not seen in Sword and Shield, but with this January update, you’ll be able to catch a new Galarian form of a Gen 1 Pokémon.
Galarian Slowpoke was revealed during the new Pokémon Direct and will play a part in the Isle of Armor portion of the Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. Updating your Sword or Shield game will grant you access to this new Pokémon.
If you want to learn how to catch Galarian Slowpoke in Sword and Shield before the DLC releases, here’s everything you need to know.
HOW TO CATCH GALARIAN SLOWPOKE IN POKEMON SWORD AND SHIELD
The first thing trainers need to do is update their Pokémon Sword or Shield game. Make sure the software is closed and press the plus button while the game’s icon is highlighted. Select “Software Update” and then “Via the Internet” to start updating to version 1.1.
After you update, go into your Gen 8 game and head over to Wedgehurst, one of the early-game towns. It’s located in the South region of Galar.
Run over to Wedgehurst Train Station where a small cutscene will occur. You’ll see Klara, a Poison-type trainer if you’re playing Sword, or Avery, a Psychic-type trainer if you’re playing Shield, talking to one of the train station workers.
The train station worker will ask for an “Armor Pass” from Klara/Avery, and they’ll hand it to them when a Galarian Slowpoke comes into frame.
Walk up to the worker ,and he’ll explain that Galarian Slowpoke are heavy, but they need to move it out of the way of customers. He asks if you can catch it. Go up to the Slowpoke and accept to catch it.
Galairan Slowpoke comes at Level 12 and is a pure Psychic-type Pokémon. It’s rather easy capture, so chuck your favorite Poke Ball at it and get yourself a new Pokémon.
Once you capture it, Klara/Avery will explain how there are more new Pokémon and challenges at the Isle of Armor, and they hope to see you there.
WHAT WE KNOW ABOUT GALARIAN SLOWPOKE
Galarian Slowpoke is a pure Psychic-type Pokémon with the Own Tempo ability and the following attacks: Growl, Acid, Yawn and Confusion.
A special item found on the Isle of Armor will evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowbro. Another special item found on the Crown Tundra will evolve Galarian Slowpoke into Galarian Slowking.
It’s not clear what these evolved Pokémon will look like or how their typings might change, but, if the move Acid is any indication, (along with Klara and Avery’s Pokémon type of choice) the evolutions may be Psychic and Poison-type.
Pokémon Sword and Shield is available now for Nintendo Switch. Isle of Armor releases in June with Crown Tundra releasing in fall 2020.
