Eggs and Hatching
Eggs are items in Pokemon GO that can usually be found by interacting with PokeStops to find free items. These eggs can be hatched into Pokemon. On this page, you will find information on how to hatch a Pokemon Egg, Adventure Sync, and a chart detailing the different hatchable Pokemon.
There are different kinds of Pokemon Eggs that can hatch into numerous Pokemon, but to hatch them you’ll have to do a bit of work. Each player starts with one Egg Incubator, which allows you to hatch an egg after a certain amount of steps are taken, tracked by your phone’s GPS and Pedometer and the game. There are four types of eggs: 12km, 10km, 7km, 5km, and 2km.
If you have more than one Egg Incubator, use the one with infinite uses on 2km eggs! That way, you’ll get the most use out of it.
Pokemon Go Egg Kilometers (km) to Miles conversion:
12km = 7.5 miles | 10km = 6.3 miles | 7km = 4.3 miles | 5km = 3.1 miles | 2km = 1.25 miles |
How to Hatch a Pokemon Egg
To hatch an egg, check your Pokemon list and hit the tab labeled “Eggs”. Clicking on the egg will prompt you to put it in an incubator to begin the process of hatching said egg. Note that you only have one incubator to start with, but more can be bought from the Shop, or rewarded for reaching certain levels – although the shop and other versions will break after 3 uses – while your starting incubator has unlimited uses.
Once in the incubator, you’ll be given an indication of how many more kilometers you must travel in order to hatch the egg. Then it’s just a matter of going off to explore while your GPS does the work!
Take into consideration that the GPS works in sync with your phone’s pedometer, so you can’t trick it by hopping into a car and driving a few kilometers. Your game must be open and you must walk for that distance to count toward the hatching of your egg (unless using Adventure Sync). Fast-moving vehicles will likely disable the distance traveled unless there are frequent slowdowns or stops (and the phone is constantly being jostled to replicate pedometer movement).
Most eggs take between two to five kilometers to hatch, but just like in the original Pokemon games, the longer it takes to hatch the rarer the Pokemon probably is!
Hatching an egg will also earn you quite a bit of XP, and lots of Pokemon Candy for that Pokemon.
Adventure Sync Eggs
Adventure Sync is an optional feature that tracks kilometers walked even when the Pokemon GO app isn’t open. If activated, you can get weekly Adventure Sync eggs depending on how far you walk.
If you have an egg slot available, you will earn an Adventure Sync egg at 25 kilometers walked and at 50 kilometers walked, respectively. These have a unique pool of six different Pokemon and come in 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers eggs.
Potential Pokemon Hatched by Egg Type
The following Pokemon can be found by hatching eggs for distances of 2, 5, 10, and 12 kilometers.
Potential Maximum CP of hatched and developed Pokemon for each egg type is listed below from most to least powerful, based on the unconfirmed stats recently revealed by Gamepress. CP affects a Pokemon’s effectiveness is Gym battles.
Note that a higher kilometer egg STILL has the chance to grant a Pokemon from a lower kilometer egg.
