Philadelphia Flower Show heads outside again in June
It’s never too early to think spring when it comes to the Philadelphia Flower Show, which will head outdoors again in June for the second year in a row.
“In Full Bloom” is the theme of the 10-day floral and plant extravaganza to be held June 11 to 19 at the same outdoor venue as last year — Franklin Delano Roosevelt Park in South Philly.
The flower show, a nearly 200-year-old Pennsylvania Horticultural Society tradition, will feature major floral exhibitors like landscape designers and nonprofit organizations, a food bazaar, native butterflies, inspirational learning gardens and a new area for children and families to be called the kids’ cocoon and play space, all inside the 15-acre park.
Various ticket options are available now. Regular and select special event tickets can be purchased visiting phsonline.org/the-flower-show
“With this year’s Flower Show theme of ‘In Full Bloom,’ we are aiming to build on the ‘wow factor’ of previous years and deliver a truly immersive, engaging and highly unique experience for our visitors that will both thrill and inspire,” said Sam Lemheney, Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Chief of Shows and Events.

He said the decision to produce the 2022 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show outdoors again was made to accommodate the continuing challenges and uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. The show left the Pennsylvania Convention Center in 2021.
The park footprint allows for social distancing and the associated health benefits of being outside, according to the society.
Besides the new area for kids and families, several other changes have been made as a result of lessons learned from last year’s first outdoor shows, said show spokeswoman Sin Gogolak.
These include a new ticketing structure without timed sessions, flexible tickets that can be used any day, a floral path for visitors to follow and additional shaded seating.
“This year’s theme connotes good health, positive well-being, and a passion for life that culminates in a gorgeous and colorful spectacle. Guests will encounter outdoor gardens at the peak of seasonal perfection and beauty that will inspire everyone to plan for a better tomorrow.”
The flower show is the nation’s longest-running horticultural event.
