Peacock Devices: Supported Smart TVs & Streaming Players [Updated]

Peacock can be accessed on a variety of different smart TVs and streaming players. However, that doesn’t mean every device is officially supported. As this is a newer service, it will take time for some agreements to be put in place. During this phase, some consumers might find they are unable to access Peacock on their preferred device(s).

Peacock is a popular option for those looking to access NBCUniversal content including live sports, such as English Premier League. How much content is available depends on whether subscribing to a free or paid tier. There is also the option to go ad-free for those that want more of an uninterrupted viewing experience.

Understanding which devices are officially supported is one of the first things to check before considering subscribing to Peacock. This guide provides information on the supported status for many different platforms and devices. For those short on time, below is a current and up to date list of all the main supported devices.

Streaming Peacock on a smart TV

Almost every device listed above can be used to stream Peacock on smart TVs, although many of them do require the consumer to invest in additional hardware. For those looking to access Peacock directly on a smart TV, the options are far more limited at the moment.

At the platform level, Android TV is currently the only major TV OS platform with direct access to a Peacock app. Therefore, any smart TV powered by Android TV can simply download the Peacock app directly from the Google Play Store on the TV or by sending the app to a TV through the web version of the Play Store.

Platform support aside, there are some specific smart TV manufacturers who have already agreed terms with Comcast and NBCUniversal for access to Peacock.

• LG smart TVs (WebOS 3.5 or newer)
• Vizio SmartCast (2015 and newer running 2.0 or above)

A final option for some users who find their smart TV is not currently supported is Chromecast built-in. While this option won’t provide direct access to a TV app that can be downloaded on the TV, users can take advantage of the built-in Chromecast functionality to cast Peacock from the smartphone app to a smart TV. This is without the need for any additional hardware, other than a smartphone.

Watching Peacock on Roku

Although Roku support was not available at launch, it is now. As a result, many subscribers will be able download the Peacock channel on their Roku player or TV and stream their favorite Peacock shows and movies. Generally speaking, Peacock supports a wide selection of Roku devices although not every Roku device is supported.

Other supported streaming players

Besides Roku, there are many other third-party streaming devices that can be connected to a TV to access the streaming service. At present, the most accessible option is Android TV. Similar to smart TVs powered by Android TV, these devices can access the same Android TV app available from the Google Play Store.

In addition to the devices listed above, Android TV is also available on select additional devices, including the JBL Link Bar soundbar and Epson streaming projectors. Therefore, these devices can also download and stream Peacock movies and TV shows through the Android TV app.

Comcast customers have the additional option of using one of the company’s own players to stream Peacock on. In fact, both the Xfinity X1 and Xfinity Flex were the first to gain Peacock support. Select Comcast customers may also find they are even eligible to get the $4.99 premium plan for free. Alternatively, they can upgrade to the ad-free version for just $5 (usually $9.99) per month.

Another popular streaming player option is Apple TV and Peacock is currently compatible with both the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K. A final additional hardware option to consider is Chromecast. Similar to devices with Chromecast built-in, the standalone Chromecast HDMI dongle, as well as Chromecast with Google TV can be connected to a smart TV and will add the ability for consumers to stream movies and TV shows through the Peacock app.

Streaming Peacock through a web browser

An alternative option to watching Peacock movies and TV shows is directly through a web browser. This is not only a good solution for when using a laptop or desktop, but it can also help in situations where a smart TV is not supported, considering the computer can be connected directly to a TV.

Peacock and Amazon Fire TV

Comcast and NBCUniversal have yet to agree a deal with Amazon to provide Fire TV device with access to the Peacock app. Peacock has repeatedly said that it is committed to adding greater device support in the future. In the meantime, there are a number of Fire TV devices that cannot be used to stream Peacock.

Peacock device support summary

Peacock is a newer streaming service and therefore, device support is somewhat limited compared to other services. However, it can still be access on a number of different smart TVs and streaming players, including Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku.

Arguably, the lack of Samsung smart TV and Fire TV platform support are going to be the major problem areas for consumers, considering their popularity. In the meantime, there are other options that consumers can turn to for access to Peacock while waiting for their main device to gain support.
