hi bees! So I’m super paranoid.. I’m getting engaged VERY soon and I am so paranoid about the ring not fitting. I have bigger knuckles and skinny fingers:(
We got the ring custom made in a size 4.75 after getting measured various times in the fall/winter. The first time I got sized in late October, they measured me as a size 4.5. All of the other times I went in the winter, jewelers said I’m a size 4.75 since the 5 slipped off a little too easily and the 4.5 was fairly snug.
BUT my boyfriend is proposing in the summer so I’m so worried that the ring will be super hard to get over my knuckle since it’s humid and hot a f here during the summer in Tennessee and I bloat super easily (plus, I think he’s proposing outside).
anyone have/had similar issues when getting engaged? IM SO NERVOUS because that would be slightly sad but not the end of the world if it didn’t fit or he had to shove it on haha

Such an exciting time!! I too have bigger knuckles and slimmer fingers- just think of the knuckle as part of your fingers though. You have to take them into account for sizing. If not for my knuckles I’d probably be a 4.75 around the base of my fingers, but I wear a 5 so I can get it over my knuckles. A bit more room would be better for you imo. And if it can’t be done right now, you can always do it after the proposal!

Same as the above poster. Sized to a five for my knuckles. It’s just the way some fingers are shaped. I’m sure you’ll be fine – maybe just keep it on after the proposal? It’s the constant on/off that gets uncomfortable for me in the summer.

Thanks for the quick response!! Would you mind posting a pic of yours??
I totally agree, but in the winter, the 5 literally slipped right on and right off so it would definitely fly off when it gets cold out so that’s why I figured I should go with the 4.75. And my ring will be just over 1ct center stone oval with a thicker halo in a low cathedral setting, so my jeweler was saying that if I go too loose, the ring will swing non stop since it’s so top heavy (plus, we had it made in platinum which adds extra weight)
My mom said if worse comes to worse, put some spit on it and shove it on haha. I’ve been drinking so much water and avoiding salty foods so that I don’t bloat more than I already naturally do.
why are my fingers so difficult!!!

I appreciate the response and assurance 🙂
I will only take it off to workout so it doesn’t get super scratched!
Do you have any pics of yours since youre close to my ring size?

Hard to see the difference in my knuckles now, but there are odd times I need lotion to get the ring off and most times I don’t, and the ring spins a bit, so my fingers fluctuate too. I wouldn’t go smaller regardless.

oh my gosh your ring is massive!! I love it!
it looks like it fits you very well! Yeah I for sure would not go smaller to a 4.5. We already had it made in a 4.75 so I’m banking on being able to shove it over my knuckle bc I know it’ll be spinny once it’s on my actual finger (hopefully haha)

Your ring finger knuckle doesn’t look that much bigger than the base. The ring is suppose to require a little bit of wiggling to get on and off past the knuckles. You certainly don’t want it to come off easily. Try wiggling gently while holding / pulling your skin at the knuckles down a bit.
I usually wear a size 4 ring because the generic size don’t go any lower, but that’s just a band, it can spin and I don’t care. My E ring is 3.75, after trying at different jewellery stores that’s what they always told me. It fits really well and require a bit of wiggling to get off but not hard. The first day I wore it I struggled to get it off as I just hadn’t figured out the best technique, thought it was too tight for the knuckles, pulled hard to get it off (read bunched up skin) and ended up with a small cut on the skin there lol… so definitely don’t do that, just be gentle it will come off / go on.

Thank you so much for the awesome advice! Do you slightly bend your finger at all to try to get it on/off too as you pull your skin flat? Does doing that make it easier?
I don’t wear jewelry so I honestly have no idea what is best, but the skin pulling thing definitely makes sense!

bending doesn’t really help, the jeweller advised me to just relax my finger / hand while using the other hand to pull down the skin while wiggling it on / off. At first I was holding my finger straight and tense which made it harder. Being relaxed is important, think dangly finger lol..

Big knuckles here too. My ring is definitely loose when my hands are cold. It spins a lot and is easy to slide off. But when my hands are hot, it’s perfectly snug. I swear my fingers must go up at least half a size depending on the weather. I would definitely do the 4.75. Although the spinning is annoying, I don’t really have to worry about it falling off because of those knobby knuckles.

Early congrats!
So I had a similar problem. The pads of my last digit are super puffy, so it makes it seem like I’d be more of a size 7 or so. But once I get a ring to go over those finger pads, my actual finger is a lot thinner. My wedding set is a 5.5. So basically, I have to shove my set over my finger pads but then they fit fairly snug around my finger. The only time I have an issue is if it’s super cold or if I’ve just washed my hands.
