Lil Uzi Vert has again become a victim of a cruel death hoax that left many of his fans concerned – don’t worry the rapper is alive but how did the rumor start?
The Way Life Goes artist celebrated his birthday on July 31, when he turned 27 years old.
His age has been a topic of interest ever since the rapper revealed in 2021 his mother found his birth certificate, which confirmed his exact age after some confusion.
But while fellow musicians wished him well on his birthday, some fans were worried following confusing posts about a theory surrounding ‘Club 27’.
Lil Uzi Vert is not dead
Lil Uzi Vert hasn’t died – he celebrated his 27th birthday on Sunday, July 31. He has been active on Instagram in the past day as he reshared birthday posts and messages from fellow rappers on his Instagram Stories.
For one reason or another, celebrities often fall victim to cruel rumours that leave their loyal fans worried and confused.
Lil Uzi Vert is the latest celebrity after the so-called ‘Club 27’ theory took over Twitter, leading to false rumours on social media.
The death hoax appears to have started from an earlier video on TikTok that included a fake report.
‘Club 27’ theory explained
The Club 27 theory includes a list of famous celebrities who died at the age of 27. The term was coined following Kurt Cobain’s suicide in 1994 at the age of 27, as reported by Rolling Stone.
The theory notes celebrities such as musicians Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Brian Jones all passed away aged 27.
Lil Uzi Vert has been the victim of death hoaxes for several years but this one appears to stem from an interview in 2016, when he spoke to Nardwuar the Human Serviette at the SXSW Festival.
The 12-minute interview, which you can listen to on YouTube, heard Lil Uzi Vert talk about Marilyn Manson. Uzi says: “At age 27, I will leave this Earth for this man right here. He’s the Pale Emperor.”
However, the artist set the record straight about the theory in November 2020. He tweeted at the time: “I let this go for so long I never said I was gonna die. Don’t you know ‘leave this Earth’ is a term for taking DMT?”
The rapper added he thought he was going to be “high” at the age of 27 as DMT stands for the psychedelic drug N, N-Dimethyltryptamine. However, he finished his explanation tweet by stating: “Say no to drugs!”
Hoax leaves fans worried
The ‘Club 27’ theory has taken over Twitter and many of Lil Uzi Vert’s fans were left worried and angered over the death hoax.
“I get paranoid whenever I see a rapper name and an age. I automatically read it as Lil Uzi Vert dead at 27,” one person tweeted.
Someone else commented: “Lil Uzi Vert is 27 and ain’t dead. I’ve been told for the last five years he would die when [he] turned 27.”
“No way Lil Uzi Vert leaving age 27 with the Club 27,” another wrote.
Someone else noted: “Lil Uzi Vert just turned 27. Protect that man at all costs.”
