JT of City Girls releases new music on her “First Day Out”
Jatavia Shakara Johnson, aka JT, of City Girls was officially released Tuesday afternoon, announced by her proclaimed ace, Yung Miami, on Instagram.
Hot Girl Summer seemed to be slowly shifting into Nerd Girl Fall until City Girls co-founder, JT, became a free woman and was released from Tallahassee Federal Correctional. She served 15 months in prison and hit the ground running with a fresh set, popping fit, fly kicks and new music titled “First Day Out”.
JT goes for the heads of anyone speaking sideways while she was away and assures fans and competing artists alike that they should not underestimate the City Girls, especially with her back in the fold.
As Johnson says in her rap, she’s back “in time for the season change”. Yung Miami held the brand down while JT was away during an evolution in hip-hop for women. Although criticized, Miami’s pregnancy is a milestone and not a roadblock to her career or the progression of the group’s business endeavors.
Her BET Awards performance was reminiscent of an expecting Cardi B, entertaining a crowd of her fans while carrying. JT also comes home to a fresh partnership with Sorellas Boutique for the Girls Tour collection. With a surge of women in hip-hop being propelled to center stage, the City Girls have headlined a movement of unapologetic, ratchet and professional women who command a supreme level of respect regardless of how much she twerks.
Along with faces like Megan Thee Stallion, Rapsody, Cardi B, Tierra Whack, Nicki Minaj and Rico Nasty, the City Girls have churned out hits that will continue to expand the platform for women rappers trailing behind. JT’s style adds a certain presence to the tandem and now that she’s out will be tasked with carrying the torch while Yung Miami prepares to welcome her bundle of joy.
