Preparing an effective welcome speech is the best way to inspire an event, and it can be as simple or formal as the situation requires. Start your speech by greeting the audience before giving an overview of the event. End the speech by introducing the next speaker and thanking the audience again for attending. When writing your speech, make sure that you set the right tone, that your speech has a time limit, and that you think about its main purpose when writing it.
Steps
Hello audience
- Keep a more serious tone if it’s an important ceremony. Use more formal language and don’t break the seriousness with any inappropriate jokes. For example, at the pre-funeral ceremony, you could say, “We are thrilled to have you all here tonight. We appreciate everyone’s presence at this difficult time.”
- For an event involving family and close friends, casual language would be appropriate. You can tell a few jokes and keep the speech softer.
