How to Unlock the Secret Cow Level

Before you can go unlocking this secret level, you will first need to beat the game. That means either beating Tap to Reveal in Act IV for vanilla Diablo II or defeating Tap to Reveal in Act V for both the Lord of Destruction expansion and the Diablo II: Resurrected remaster.

How to Unlock the Secret Cow Level

The Secret Cow Level, also known as the Moo Moo Farm, is part of an Easter Egg quest included by Blizzard based on Diablo I’s old cow level rumors.

You can unlock the Secret Cow Level by transmuting a Tome of Town Portal and Wirt’s Leg in the Horadric Cube. Doing this will open a red portal back in Rogue Encampment, the starting town in Act I.

• Note that you can’t transmute them in any other part of the game, you must be inside of the Rogue Encampment for the portal to appear.
• You can purchase a Tome of Town Portal from one of the Act town’s magic vendors. You can also obtain one from the bookcases in the Jail and Catacomb dungeons in Act I.

How to Get Wirt’s Leg

A missable item during The Search for Cain quest in Act I, Wirt’s Leg, is located in the upper west area of Tristam.

If you didn’t pick it up from Wirt’s corpse the first time around, don’t worry, all you have to do is go back to the Cairn Stones in the Stony Field. There you can take the portal back to Tristam and loot the leg from his find Wirt’s lifeless body.

• Wirt’s Leg can be used as a One-Hand weapon. Though it is very weak, it does deal 50% more damage to Undead enemies.

Hell Bovines and The Cow King

Hell Bovines overrun this relatively small area. These bipedal cattle wield vicious halberds and will attack you in massive herds, but fortunately, their movement speed is moderately slow.

• They can pose severe problems for melee classes—a hit-and-run tactic is not recommended as you might mistakenly tip-off more groups of Hell Bovines.

Here you’ll also find a Super Unique Hell Bovine named The Cow King. You can spot him easily since he’ll be the one Hell Bovine with a crown on his head.

The Cow King acts as a boss for this secret level, and killing him will disable you from creating another portal to the Secret Cow Level on the same difficulty. This rule also applies to other players that were inside the area when he died.

• However, if a player that hasn’t killed The Cow King creates a portal, players that have killed him can still enter that portal.
