A well-fitting pair of pants can greatly enhance your style, so it’s important to know the inside seam measurements of your pants. The inside seam is measured from the crotch down to the hem of the pants. By measuring the inside seam, you will choose the perfect length. You can measure this yourself, but if possible it is best to have someone else measure it for you.
Steps
Measure available pants

- For example, if you want to buy a pair of casual pants, use an existing pair of casual pants to measure. If you want to buy jeans, measure a pair of jeans.

- Be sure to smooth out wrinkles and folds on the leg of the pants you’re about to measure.
- Be sure to measure the entire inner rib seam, which is the seam you see on the inside of your shin when standing.

- If you’re going to pair your new pants with heels, add 1.5-2.5 cm to your measured inner seam to get the right length.
- If you are buying pants that are prone to shrinkage, round the inside seam measurement to a maximum of 1.5 cm.
Use a mirror to measure your body measurements

- When you measure yourself, clothes can make this more difficult because they are quite cumbersome and you will not be able to measure your body closely.

- Ideally, use a full-length mirror so you can see your entire body. If you don’t have a full-length mirror, use the largest mirror you have and face your lower body.

- If you have removed the ruler, you can roll it up in the palm of your hand. However, remember to leave the end of the string starting from “1” to easily drop the ruler to your feet.

- Be extremely careful when performing this operation. If you move your finger on the ruler a little up or down, you will also cause the measurement to be inaccurate.

- Add 1.5-2.5 cm to the bottom seam measurement if you’re pairing the pants with heels or pants with a fabric that’s prone to shrinking. For example, pants made of cotton, linen or wool are prone to shrinkage. Jeans are usually made of cotton, so they will shrink a bit when washed.
Have someone else measure it for you

- Also, if the pants are made from a material that is prone to shrinkage, round the inside seam measurement to a maximum of 1.5 cm.
Advice
- If sewing pants, you can ask if the tailor can use your own measurements.
- Measure a few different pairs of pants for the most accurate measurements.
