How to Make a Tassel Ball (Pom Pom)

Pom poms come in several different varieties. Some are used to decorate crocheted items, some are used in cheerleading dances, and some are made from tissue paper used to decorate homes. You can make one or all of these three types of tassel balls if the right materials are available.

Make a tassel ball with wool

Cut 2 circles out of cardboard. Cut 2 cardboard circles, then cut a fan-shaped slit and a small hole in the center of each to make it look like a saucer with a keyhole in the middle. Remember that the bigger the circle, the bigger your sphere will be (and vice versa). ^{[1] X Research Source}

You can cut freely into a circle if you are skillful, or use a cup or bowl to draw the outline in a circle, then cut it out.

Place a yarn between the two pieces of cardboard. Place a thread of yarn around the keyhole of one piece of cardboard and place the other piece of cardstock on top of the yarn. Arrange two circles so that the two keyholes coincide. ^{[2] X Research Source}

This yarn has the role of fastening the tassel ball afterwards. Remember that the yarn should be long enough for the ends to stick out on either side of the keyhole. ^{[3] X Research Sources}

Cut the wool loops. Slip the nose between two pieces of circular cardboard and cut the loops around the outer edge of the circle. Cut slowly and evenly weigh both sides. ^{[5] X Research Sources}

When cutting the yarn, hold the end of the yarn that you placed between the two pieces of cardboard. This yarn will help fasten the sphere.

Cut the garbage bags into several strips. Cut from the edge of the bag to the center, starting from the edge you just cut. Cut the bag into strips 1.5-2.5 cm apart as you like. Make a tassel ball with tissue paper

Stack 8 sheets of tissue paper on top of each other. Lay the sheets of tissue paper on a flat surface so that all the edges of the paper coincide.

Fold the stack of paper vertically in a fan-folding fashion. Start folding at one end of the stack of tissue paper in a fan-fold fashion, that is, fold one fold of paper on one side, then turn over to fold the next fold on the other side. Cut both ends of the folded stack of paper. You can cut diagonally for pointed ends or cut round. The shape of the tassel will depend on the cut you choose.
