How To Maintain A Car Battery?

Car batteries are one of those things we imagine would last forever. However, that is not the case; like any other object or machine in our life, a car battery needs to be appropriately maintained if you want to maximize its lifetime. Here’s how you can maintain and increase the life of your car battery.

Things you’ll need:

• Wire brush or a toothbrush
• Baking soda
• Vinegar
• Clean rag
• Hot water
• Soda
• Rubber gloves
• Petroleum jelly
• WD-40 can

Before trying any methods, make sure to:

• Put on your rubber gloves, turn off the car and disconnect the battery. Remove the negative clamp before removing the positive one.
• Check the battery for signs of cracks or damage. You’ll need to get a new battery if it is damaged. If there is corrosion on the terminal clamps you must clean them first and make sure the terminals are not in contact with each other or any metal surface.

Maintain Your Car Battery With Baking Soda:

• Mix a tablespoon of baking soda and a cup of warm water, dip a brush in the solution and scrub the corrosion away till most of it is gone.
• Wash away the residue by rinsing with plain hot water and take a clean, dry cloth and wipe until the battery is dry.
• You will then have to reconnect the terminals.

Maintain Your Car Battery With Drinking Soda:

• Pour coke over the terminals and connections a few times. Take a wire brush and scrub everything clean. Rinse thoroughly with hot water once all corrosion is gone.
• Clean all residue with a dry cloth and wipe multiple times if necessary.
• Reconnect the car battery terminals.

Maintain Your Car Battery With WD-40:

• Spray WD-40 on each of the battery terminals and cable connections if they’re also covered in grime. Leave it for a few minutes, scrub it with the brush, and rinse with hot water. Repeat this step till the corrosion is gone.
• Wash away the residue with plain hot water and wipe with dry cloth/tissues until the battery is dry.
• Reconnect the terminals.
