How to Lighten Hair Color Naturally

Spray your hair with lemon juice. Used by many women for hundreds of years with a desire to have vibrant hair color, lemon juice is one of the oldest and most effective natural lightening methods. Pour lemon juice into a spray bottle and cover your entire hair. Let it dry for 20 minutes before rinsing it off.

• Lemon juice can dry out your hair if used regularly, so mix it with a little oil to soften your hair.

Brew a cup of coffee. If you have brown hair, make a very strong pot of coffee. Let it cool completely, refrigerate if needed. Pour cold coffee into a spray bottle, and spray it all over your hair. Sit in the sun for about half an hour. This will not lighten the entire hair color, but will lighten your natural highlights.

Make chamomile tea. The natural light color of the chamomile and the natural chemical composition of the flower combine to create a pale yellow color in the hair. Soak five chamomile tea packets in boiled water. When the tea is completely cooled, spray it on your hair, comb it through, and sit in the sun for about 30 minutes to create natural highlights.

Use dried marigolds. Like Roman chamomile, marigold can create that golden highlight you’ve always wanted. Put 1 cup of water, 1 cup of apple cider vinegar, and some dried marigold flowers in a pot and bring to a boil. Strain out the flowers and let the water cool completely. Put it in a spray bottle, spray it on dry hair, massage it into the scalp, and let it dry naturally.

Use rhubarb. Boil some rhubarb root, let the solution cool completely, and test on inconspicuous hair before applying it all over your hair. Rhubarb adds a golden tint, so if your hair is already extremely light, it can turn darker.

Make berry tea. The reason there are three different teas on this list – they work! If you want to bring out the red highlights in your hair, use natural red tea and let it soak into your hair. Look for berry or fruit teas that are red when brewed, like raspberry, blackberry, or pomegranate. Soak a few tea bags in several cups of water and pour it over your hair. Let it soak into your hair for at least 30 minutes before rinsing it off.

Try beet juice. If you’ve ever cooked beets, you’ll know the effect of beet juice’s ability to stick color. Create a natural red color in your hair by letting beet juice do its magic. Mix with a little distilled water to dilute it, and coat the mixture on your hair. Let it soak for 15-20 minutes, and rinse with warm water.

Make a cinnamon mask. Making some hot cinnamon tea using real cinnamon is a great way to bring out the light caramel color in your hair. Mix a few cinnamon sticks or 1-2 teaspoons of cinnamon with a few cups of water (more or less depending on the length and thickness of your hair). Coat it on your hair and let it soak for a while before rinsing it off.
