Adobe Photoshop is most used for illustration and image editing. You can also add text in Photoshop and adjust properties (such as text font, size and color, create ads, images, or titles). Note: people insert text in Photoshop mainly to add visual elements with short messages to Photoshop images instead of entering paragraphs or text documents.
Steps
Add any text
- Font: allows you to choose the names of different fonts, such as Arial and Times New Roman.
- Font Size: adjust points in the font size to make text larger or smaller.
- Font Alignment: select the position of the text in the middle or close to the right or left.
- Font Cpor: click on the font color palette to choose different colors for the text.
- If you just insert simple text, that’s it.
- If you know how to use the pen tool, you can click on the link to enter text along that line.
- You won’t be able to edit the text if you do rasterization. If you accidentally see the Rasterize option, ignore it for now.
- If the text layer is already selected, you can press Ctrl-T or Cmd-T to resize it manually instead of re-selecting a new font size. [2] X Research Source
Add more complex text effects
- Horizontal Type Top: most used, this tool allows you to enter text horizontally from left to right. This is the default option if you are merely clicking the Text tool.
- Vertical Type Top: Allows you to type text vertically instead of left to right.
- Horizontal Type Mask Top: This tool turns text into a mask and is used in many cool Photoshop tricks. As soon as you click, the program will add a layer below the text and use this layer to “color” as you type.
- Vertical Type Mask Top: Works similar to the Horizontal Type Mask option, but the text will be entered vertically instead of from left to right. [3] X Research Sources
- Click and drag the icons in each menu to try them out. You can immediately see the effect of the option in practice. Most affect line spacing.
- The Character menu mainly affects the actual style, while Paragraph adjusts the overall text block and line alignment. [4] X Research Sources
- If you cannot access Paragraph Options, right click on the text and select “Convert to Paragraph Text”. [5] X Research Sources
- Bevel & Emboss: This tool creates 3D text by assembling the strokes of the text into a 3D tube-like cylinder.
- Stroke: This option outlines the text with a color stroke, bold stroke, and pattern of your choice.
- The Overlays: These options will change the font color, setting a new color, pattern, or gradient over the text shape. You can even reduce the opacity of the overlays to create interesting shadows and blends.
- Drop Shadow: Adds a short, movable shadow to the back of the text (like having a wall in the background a few meters away from the text). You can change the angle, softness and shadow size. [7] X Research Sources
- Fonts are usually .ttf files.
Advice
- If you want to quickly add text to Adobe Photoshop, simply press the “T” key on your keyboard to select the Type tool.
- If for some reason the text tool doesn’t work, create a new layer and try again. If that still doesn’t work, you need to open the text tool by clicking the down arrow in the upper left corner and selecting the little gear icon. Then, click “reset top” to turn the Type tool back on.
Warning
- Keyboard shortcuts will not work when you are using the Type tool because Photoshop now recognizes the keyboard for text input purposes.
