While it is best to avoid conflict with others, there will be times when you have no choice but to punch each other. If you’re stuck in a thrashing and there’s no way out, there are a few techniques you can use to increase your chances of winning. Practice throwing different punches for a better attack, and always take a stance to be ready to block the opponent. With a little knowledge and practice, you will be able to survive in battles.
Steps
Attack
- You can choose to keep your hand open or closed into a fist in a normal standing position.
- Avoid stiffening your body as it will not move effectively.
- You can also stand on the right side of the opponent, but that position will not throw punches.
- Don’t put your thumb on your fingers or you will get hurt when you punch.
- Avoid arching your wrists when collecting your fists or your punches won’t be as strong and you could dislocate your hand.
- You should respect your opponent – don’t use cowardly tricks, dirty blows and never attack from behind. Let’s fight fairly.
- Try kicking your opponent’s crotch or knee to bring them down faster and you can run away.
- Switch fists to strike continuously, many shots.
- One hand punches, one hand holds across the face to block the opponent’s blows if they want to hit you.
The trick: Exhale quickly as you punch to increase speed and release emotions.
- Raise your hand with your palm open to look like you don’t want to fight anymore before hitting the hook with the arm tilted forward. This is a great way to surprise and stun your opponent.
- Headbutting is illegal in legal arenas, like mixed martial arts.
- Headbutting also makes the opponent unconscious.
Self defence
- While it’s important to keep an eye on your partner at all times, you should also keep an eye on your surroundings so you don’t get cornered or slide over something.
- Avoid standing with your body facing your opponent or you will be easily attacked by them in the chest or abdomen.
- Bend slightly to make it harder for your opponent to hit you. However, keep in mind that when you bend over, the opponent can still kick you in the knee or face more easily.
- Make sure you can still see your opponent while blocking or they might launch an attack without you being able to see it.
- Keep your head down when receiving a punch to protect sensitive areas like eyes and nose.
- Aim at the opponent’s shoulder or chest to push, so that they lose their balance.
- Take the opportunity that the opponent is regaining balance, quickly punch them again to gain the upper hand in the fight.
- If you can’t turn your body completely, try bending from side to side to make it harder for your opponent to hit you.
The trick: If the opponent keeps aiming for the head and you can’t avoid it, lower your chin to your chest to bring out the hardest part of your forehead. You still have pain, but it’s less painful than getting hit in the face.
- You can scream or call for help when needed. Contact the police or law enforcement if you are concerned for your safety after the battle.
Advice
- Avoid running or moving too fast, you could get out of breath and fight ineffective.
- Do your best to stay strong when fighting. If knocked down, protect the head at all costs to avoid further injury.
Warning
- Do not initiate a battle unless the situation dictates. Fighting gets you in trouble with the law if it goes beyond self-defense. Always call for help or stay away from a battle if possible.
