It’s great if you have full body massage skills. You can relieve stress on friends and family members, help someone with body aches, or be intimate and romantic with your partner by giving them a massage. Performing a great massage is not difficult, it just requires a little preparation and knowing how to do it. Let’s start from step 1 below.
Steps
Create a Relaxing Space
- Prepare a comfortable place to lie down, such as a bed, a soft rug or a separate table. Cover the bed with a soft towel to keep it clean and oil-free.
- Make sure the massage room is warm and pleasant. Remember that your partner/guest will take off some of their clothing during the massage, so don’t let them get cold. Use the heater if necessary.
- The massage room needs to be a private place where other people, children or animals won’t disturb you.
- If possible, dim the lights or turn them off completely and do a candlelight massage. If you want the person being massaged by you to relax to the point of falling asleep at the end, the darker the room the better!
- Using candles with a relaxing (but not overpowering) scent like lavender or sea breeze will increase the effectiveness of the massage.
- If possible, try to find out what kind of music your partner/guest enjoys. Remember that the massage you’re about to give is for them, not you, so cater to their preferences.
- Do not turn on the music too loud, play songs with soothing background music. You turn on the music to make the experience better, not take it away.
- You can buy high-end (and expensive) oils at a lot of stores, but all natural oils are good. For example, if you have sunflower or grapeseed oil in your kitchen, you can use them for a massage. Jojoba oil and almond oil are also very helpful and have a pleasant scent.
- You can add a few drops of essential oils to the massage oil. You should use pure essential oils (natural and unadulterated), not chemical perfume oils. Be aware that essential oils can penetrate the bloodstream, so choose wisely: choose a relatively calming essential oil like lavender or orange essential oil. Even so, you should consult your doctor first if your partner/guest is pregnant or has any serious health problems.
- Warm the oil and hands slightly before applying the oil to the skin of the person being massaged. A relaxing massage cannot be done with cold massage oils or cold hands!
- First, you need to cover the bed with a towel so that it does not get oil (oil can stain the bed).
- Second, you need to cover your partner/guest with a towel while giving them a massage. Ideally, they should only wear underwear that exposes as much skin as possible. You can cover part of their body with a towel so they don’t feel shy and keep them warm while you massage each body part.
- Finally, you need an extra towel to wipe the excess oil from your hands during and after the massage.
Massage Correct Technique
- Pay special attention to the dimples on the soles of the feet because this is often a lot of fatigue, but also need to massage the heels and ankles.
- When massaging your toes, hold each toe and pull gently to help relieve toe fatigue.
- Note that not everyone likes to have their feet touched and some people have sad blood, so ask before touching their feet! [1] X Research Source
- Place your hands on the skin, gently stroke to stretch the skin. This technique is called Skin Scrubbing, it’s an easy way to start a real massage. [2] X Research Source
- Then cover the side of the leg that you are not massaging with a towel and focus on massaging the calf of the other leg. Use the Massage technique (like the kneading technique) to massage the calf muscles.
- Move up to the thighs and repeat the Massage technique to massage. Then use your wrist to press against the skin and do it slowly along the thigh. You should always move towards the heart.
- Cover the foot that has just been massaged with a towel (to keep it warm) and repeat the same massage on the other leg.
- Place your palms on either side of your spine and push up, keeping your hands parallel to each other. When your hands touch your shoulders, spread your arms and bring them forward over your shoulders, so that your hands form the top of a heart.
- Return to the lower back and use the Massage to massage the large muscles along the spine. This muscle area usually gets tired the most, so massage here a little longer.
- Next, use the “press and release” technique to continue massaging your back. This technique involves pressing your fingertips firmly into the flesh of your back, then quickly releasing your hands. When you press, the massager’s brain releases a rush of chemicals that make them feel good.
- As the massage reaches the upper back, ask your partner to bend the elbows so that the shoulder blades protrude. It will give you more access to the muscles around the edge of your shoulder blades where stress and trigger points are concentrated (where the muscle is swollen, painful, or tired from not being relaxed). - To massage the trigger point, press and release several times around the skin with your thumb or one finger.
- Place your hands on your shoulders in the traditional fashion and press your thumbs deep into your shoulder muscles. Use your fingers to squeeze but be careful not to press on the collarbone as this can cause pain to the person being massaged.
- Now move to the front of their head, their shoulders will be facing yours. Make a fist and rub the knuckles gently but firmly over the top of the shoulder to release tension.
- Next, use your thumb to press and release along the top of your shoulders and up the back of your neck.
- Grasp your wrist with your left hand and lift your entire arm off the bed. Then use your right hand to stroke along the back of the forearm, along the triceps (the muscle at the back of the arm) and up the shoulder, back and do the same with the other side of the arm.
- Now grasp the wrist with the right hand, then use the left hand to stroke along the forearm and biceps (muscle in the front of the arm) and up the shoulder, back and do the same with the other side.
- Place your partner’s arm upside down on the bed and gently massage the forearm and arm with your index finger and fingers.
- To give a hand massage, place their hand in yours and massage the palm with your thumb by moving in small circles. Then, hold each finger in turn and stroke it slowly from knuckle to nail. Pull each finger vigorously, but don’t pull too hard as it may break the finger!
- Use your thumbs to gently massage the top of your head. To make the person being massaged feel more comfortable, you can gently scratch with your fingernails.
- Next, massage each earlobe and earlobe with your thumb and forefinger. Use your fingertips to gently stroke along the cheekbones.
- Place your hand under your partner/guest’s head and raise it slightly off the bed. Use your fingers to find the small hollow between the neck and the skull. Use your fingertips to press firmly and then release. Repeat this a few times.
- Place your hands under your jaw and gently lift your head to stretch your neck muscles. Then, use your fingertips to gently press the center of the forehead (between the eyebrows) and then release. Do this for about 30 seconds.
- Next, use your fingertips to gently massage your temples, moving in a slow, circular motion. The temples are an important point when it comes to acupressure, so massaging the temples can be relaxing. [4] X Research Sources
For Perfect Massage
- Take the time to massage each part of your body separately, paying attention and fully focusing on the massage, making long, smooth and gentle strokes.
- Even if you have to get a towel, water or extra oil during the massage, try to always keep one hand on their body.
- Ask them if you press hard enough, where do they want you to massage, and what kind of massage they like best. Even so, try to speak as quietly and softly as possible to keep the space quiet. [5] X Research Sources
- However, it is important to ask your partner/guest first because some people feel pain when you do so and do not want to spoil the massage.
- The trigger point can be a large, round area of tired skin or a small bump from impact that looks like peas under the skin. Try to massage the spot directly, or your fingers will slip off it.
- Use increasing force as you press on the spot, then rotate your fist or finger to press again and again. You may need to rotate your arms in the opposite direction for best results. [6] X Research Sources
- However, do not attempt to affect tissue deep within – it is best to leave this area to a qualified specialist. Aim for the good of your partner/guest.
- Moreover, the muscle is the part you really need to massage because it focuses the most stress. Find muscles to massage and you won’t go wrong!
Advice
- Make sure your neighbors can’t see you giving your massage – pull the curtains.
- You can use a number of apps that guide step-by-step massage; so you can put your smartphone next to your massage place, it’s an easy choice for those who are forgetful. But be careful that the phone doesn’t get oiled!
- Remember to correct yourself before giving someone else a massage. Trim your nails, shower or rest, focus on your body and the massage to come, relax with yoga, mental strength exercises or breathing techniques, and wear comfortable clothes.
- If you have back or body pain afterward, drink plenty of water.
- Long after massaging someone your hands will start to hurt. So you can gently tea your palms together to ease the pain.
Warning
- Never massage the wound.
- Do not give a massage if you are not feeling well or if you or your partner are injured or ill.
- Avoid massaging the inside of the pillow, massaging this area can be dangerous because the vital structures here are not well protected by tissue or muscle and can be easily destroyed.
- Always be gentle when pressing on the lower back. Remember that here the internal organs are not protected by the ribs when you press hard.
- Do not massage legs with weak veins.
- If you plan to have sex afterwards, be aware that massage oils have a negative effect on conception.
- In some cases, massage can aggravate a health condition. If someone has any of the following health problems/conditions, consult a doctor before getting a massage: [7] X Research Source
