How to Enable Snapchat Notifications

This is an article that shows you how to turn on Snapchat notifications on the app and on your phone. App notifications will show while you are using the app, and phone notifications will show up whether you are using the app or not.

Turn on app notifications

Select the profile icon in the upper left corner of the screen to open the menu.

If you don’t have a Bitmoji profile picture, it will be a white Snapchat ghost.

Select Notifications in the “MY ACCOUNT” settings to open the Notifications page.

On Android, scroll down to the “Advanced” section and select Notification Settings .

Turn on notifications. Tap the white “Stories” slider to enable in-app notifications for Stories; if the slider is green, notifications are enabled. This is the only notification built into the Snapchat app.

On Android, you tap the white box to the right of the “News” option. If the square is checked, the News notification is enabled.
If you’re on Android, you can also choose how your phone notifications appear by selecting some or all of the boxes in this menu:
- Wake Screen – Your Android screen will light up and display a notification when you receive a message.
- Blink LED – The camera flash on your Android device will blink when you receive a message.
- Vibrate – Your phone will vibrate when you receive a message.
- Sound – Your Android device will play a sound when you receive a message.
- Ring – Your phone will ring when there is a voice or video call from Snapchat.

Turn on other notifications. If the notifications in this menu all have a white slider next to them, tap the slider to turn on whichever notification you want:

Sounds – Your iPhone will play Snapchat-specific sounds when you receive a message or other notification from Snapchat.
Badge App Icon – A number with a red background will appear on the Snapchat app icon when you have an unseen message. The number represents the number of unread messages.
Show on Lock Screen – Snapchat notifications will show up on your iPhone’s lock screen.
Show in History – Snapchat notifications that you haven’t seen will show up in the “History” menu, which you can view by swiping down the screen from the top.
Show as Banners – Snapchat notifications will appear at the top of the iPhone screen when the phone is not unlocked.
