Are you having trouble loading websites with lots of interactive elements (such as e-commerce sites)? Most of these elements are powered by JavaScript, a powerful scripting language for websites. By default, all Android browsers have JavaScript enabled. If the feature was turned off by accident on your device, or you turned it off and forgot how to turn it back on, see step 1 below to learn how to enable JavaScript.
Steps
On the default browser
- Depending on the Android version or phone manufacturer you’re using, the browser might be called “Browser” or “Internet”. Tap the app icon to open it.
- If you can’t find the browser icon on the Home screen, check in the App Drawer app drawer.
- The Menu button is usually located on the phone, or you can tap the Menu icon in the upper-right corner of the browser.
- This option is usually located near the bottom of the Menu button’s menu. The browser’s settings window will open.
- A list of advanced browser options will open.
- Once this box is checked and JavaScript is enabled in your browser, you can exit the Settings menu. Please reload the pages you are viewing to apply the new settings.
On Google Chrome
- If you’re using Chrome instead of the built-in Android browser, you’ll need to enable JavaScript through Chrome’s settings menu. The Chrome app is usually located on the Home screen or in the App Drawer.
- Some Android devices often have Chrome pre-installed as the default browser.
- This button is located in the upper right corner of the browser screen and is shaped like three vertical dots.
- If your phone has a Menu key, you can tap it.
- This option is near the bottom of the menu. You may need to scroll down to find it.
- In the Settings menu, the “Content settings” option is in the Advanced section.
- After checking this box, JavaScript will be enabled in the browser, you can exit the Settings menu. Please reload the pages you are viewing to apply the new settings.
On Mozilla Firefox
- If you’re using Firefox instead of the default Android browser, you’ll need to enable JavaScript through the Configuration page, as this setting isn’t visible in the regular menus. The Firefox app is usually located on the Home screen or in the App Drawer.
- Because Firefox hides JavaScript settings, you need to visit the hidden Configuration page to change the settings. Click on the address bar and type about:config to open the Configuration page.
- You need to be careful because changes to this page can cause clutter in the browser, so handle them carefully.
- The Configuration page has many categories, so you can find JavaScript keywords quickly. At the top of the Configuration page is the search bar. After you enter javascript , the results will appear right on the main window.
- This is usually the second option in the list of results that appear when you search for the keyword “javascript”.
- Click the option to make the Toggle button appear. Click the Toggle button to change the text from “false” to “true”. So JavaScript is enabled, but you may need to reload the pages you’re viewing to apply the change.
Advice
- If a certain website on Android is not working properly, then the JavaScript option is most likely disabled.
Warning
- Before accessing pages that require JavaScript, you need to make sure that this option is enabled for the website to work properly.
