However, you should note that Google Docs will change the format of the PDF file and delete all images; If preserving the format of the PDF file is important, you should not use Google Docs to edit the file.

Find out which PDF files you can edit. PDF files created from text, such as Word or Notepad files, can be opened as text files on Google Docs, as long as the file is not encrypted.

  • If the PDF file you want to edit is an image file (or contains multiple images) or is encrypted, you cannot use Google Docs to edit the PDF.

Open Google Docs. Visit https://docs.google.com/ using your computer’s web browser. This opens the Google Docs page if you’re signed in.
