How to Dye Black Hair to Red

Hair removal. If your hair is difficult to color or has been dyed before, you will have to bleach your hair before dyeing to get the desired shade of red. Wash your hair with shampoo and use conditioner. When the curing time is up, wash the dye out of your hair with a shampoo made for dyed hair. Wash the shampoo and apply conditioner also for dyed hair, then rinse off the conditioner.

• Use slightly warm or cool water, not hot water as it will fade the dye.
• Avoid shampoos that contain sulfate. Shampoos containing sulfate will make hair color fade faster.

Wash your hair 2-3 times per week. Red hair color usually fades quickly because of the large size of the dye molecules. To slow down the fading of hair dye, try not to wash your hair too often.

• Do not wash your hair more than once every 2 days. ^[9]
• If your hair gets oily quickly, try using a dry shampoo to keep it clean.
• Do not wash your hair with hot water. Hot water will make the dye fade faster.

Color your hair back. Red hair dye is often easy to fade. Occasionally you can re-color your hair with a semi-permanent or semi-permanent dye to preserve the color of your hair. If you need to retouch the roots, use permanent hair dye.
