Bald eagles have brown feathers with white heads, white tails, and yellow beaks. They also have powerful talons on their feet. Prey is caught and carried by them. A young eagle has brown feathers across its body and head, rather than its famous white tail and head.
Bald eagles are large birds and one of the most recognizable birds in North America. They live near water and eat mostly fish, but will also eat land animals.
Bald eagles have a huge wingspan of 5 to 8 feet long! From beak to tail, their body length ranges from 2 feet to over 3 feet.

The United States’ Beloved Bird
The Bald Eagle is a large, and very powerful bird. It has been the United State’s national Symbol since 1782. It was initially depicted with wings spread wide symbolizing strength. These majestic birds live across the country except Hawaii and are also found in parts of Canada and Mexico.
The Bald Eagle’s Life
When these beautiful animals reach the age of around 4-5 years old, they will start to find a mate! Believe it or not, when these birds find a partner, they’ll mate for life and will only move on to another partner once their mate dies or disappears.
Bald Eagles prefer living in forested areas with nearby bodies of water. They create enormous nests using sticks, on top of large trees. These nests measure an average of about half a meter deep and one and a half meters in length but can sometimes be even bigger.
Typically, Bald Eagles lay up to 3 eggs per year and not all of them live to survive. Both parents take turns hunting for food, foraging sticks for their nests, and incubating their eggs. After around more than a month of incubation, eaglets hatch from the eggs. They are born covered in light gray feathers as opposed to the brown and white they are famous for.
What You Need to Know about Bald Eagles
