How to Dive and Swim Underwater in GTA V

When Grand Theft Auto hit shelves, it quickly became one of the most popular video games of the year, and it’s easy to see why. In addition to the thrill of carjacking and committing daring thefts, players are also free to explore the open world in a variety of ways. You can play golf, go to a bar, or simply take a drive near the beach. You can even swim in Michael’s underground swimming pool or snorkel in the ocean.

Search for waters. Since the setting in GTA V is an area created based on California, finding the water is not too difficult. If you’re controlling Michael, you can practice swimming in the backyard. If you want to try swimming in a larger area there are several lakes that empties into the river.

The Tataviam Mountains have a large body of water at their center, just outside Los Santos to the northeast.

Into the water. You can get into the water by simply walking into it. After the water is flooded, the character will immediately float on the water.

Start swimming. While on the water, use the left joystick (on PS3/PS4, Xbox 360/Xbox One) or WASD keys on PC to swim forward, backward, left or right .

On a personal computer, you can move with the WASD keys as follows: Press W to move forward, S to move backward, A to move left, and D to move right.

Swim faster. To increase your character’s swimming speed, repeatedly press the X button (on PS3/PS4), the A button (on Xbox 360/Xbox One), or the Shift key (on a computer).

Dive into the water. To dive into the water, press the R1 button (on PS3), the RB button (on Xbox 360) or the spacebar (on PC) and your character will dive into the water.

Swim while in the water. To swim forward while underwater, press X (on PS3/PS4), A (on Xbox 360/Xbox One), or the left Shift key (on PC). The control buttons will be reversed when underwater (similar to when flying an airplane). Floss a knife while swimming. While in the water, the only weapon you can use is the knife. If you need to defend yourself from a shark attack, you can wield a knife by pressing the L1 button (on PS3/PS4), the LB button (on Xbox 360/Xbox One), or the Tab key (on PC). Once you have your knife in hand, you can sharpen it by pressing the Round button (on PS3/PS4), the B button (on Xbox 360/Xbox One), or the R key (on computers).

You can sharpen the knife while in the water or floating on the water.

Check gauge. You can’t stay underwater forever. There is a light blue gauge in the bottom left corner of the screen, right next to the character’s health bar. This bar lets you know how long the character can stay underwater. After the light blue gauge is exhausted, the character will start to lose health very quickly. If the character does not come to the surface before the health bar is exhausted, the character will die.
