Steps
Delete Google account
- When you sign in, you’ll see your Google account’s profile picture in the upper right corner. Click here to see the currently logged in account. If you signed in to the wrong account, click “Sign out” in the menu and log in to the account you want to delete.
- Go to accounts.google.com/signin/recovery
- Try logging in to the account you just deleted.
- Click on the “Try to restore account” link.
- Enter the last password you used for this account. If you do the restore before the data is completely erased, you may be able to get your account back.
Delete Gmail address
- When you sign in, you’ll see your current account’s profile picture in the upper right corner. Click on the photo and select “Sign out” to sign in to another account.
- The email address needs to be confirmed so make sure you can access the mailbox.
Advice
- To avoid receiving spam, create a new provider email address and do not sign up for any services. Set up another account dedicated to registering services.
- Note, if your Gmail account syncs with your Droid or other Android device, you won’t be able to access “Market” because the account has changed. You need to return the device to the original settings to authenticate the new account for these services to work again.
- When you create your Gmail account, give it a unique name. If the email address is too simple like “bob@gmail.com”, you will be prone to receiving spam because the email address is too short and easy to guess.
- When creating a Gmail account, don’t get the email address: “john.smith@gmail.com”. Some spammers mix first and last names at random to send spam.
- If you don’t know how to delete your account, just go offline. Write the status “Account is no longer active” and never log into this account.
- If you use Gmail offline, you’ll need to delete the cookies associated with Gmail offline to remove your account completely. On Google Chrome, follow these steps:
- Type chrome://settings/cookies in the address bar and press Enter.
- Find mail.google.com.
- Hover over the search result and click the X that appears on the screen.
- Before deleting an email account, back up your data to a cloud service.
Warning
- Note, if the account has been deleted for a few weeks, it cannot be recovered. However, Google can recover newly deleted addresses if you want them back.
