How to Convert Seconds to Minutes

Know that one minute is equal to 60 seconds. No matter what country you live in, every minute is equal to 60 seconds.

• If 60 seconds have passed, one minute has passed.
• Another 60 seconds have passed (120 seconds in total) and 2 minutes have passed.
• Another 180 seconds (60+60+60), 3 minutes have passed.

Divide the number of seconds by 60 to convert seconds to minutes. Every 60 seconds is equal to one full minute. When you divide a number, you know how many times a number needs to be multiplied to equal another number. Consider the following question: “How many minutes equals 360 seconds?” We need to know how many times 60 seconds is equal to 360 seconds, so we’ll do division. 360/60 = 6, so the answer is “’6 minutes’”.

• For example, how many minutes is 240 seconds?
• 1 minute = 60 seconds
• Take 240 / 60
• Answer: 240 seconds equals 4 minutes.

Convert decimals to seconds by multiplying them by 60. Sometimes seconds won’t be converted to minutes completely. The decimal represents the number of seconds left. For example, 90 seconds is equal to 1.5 minutes (90/60). That means we have 90 seconds equal to 1 minute “plus” half a minute (0.5 minutes). To convert to seconds, simply multiply the decimal part by 60. Answer: 90 seconds equals 1 minute and 30 seconds (0.5 x 60).

• 0.6 x 60 = 36 seconds
• Answer: 7600 seconds equals 126 minutes and 36 seconds

Check again by multiplying the answer by 60. If you get it right, you get the exact same number of seconds. Looking at the previous example, you see that 126.6 x 60 = 7600, so the answer above is correct.
