Posted: 3/22/2012 6:18:39 PM EDT Since I never actually sat down and counted how many loose rounds fit in each can I decided to do it. I just bought 2400 rounds of IMI M855, here it is with the three cans. “Fat .50” or M249/SAW can on the left, standard .50 can center, and a .30 can on the right. The .30 cal can held 660 rounds loose. The .30 cal can dumped into a standard .50 cal can to show the difference. A standard .50 cal can holds 1200 rounds loose. The standard .50 can can dumped into a “fat .50” can. And the “fat .50” can holds 1830 rounds loose. Beautiful IMI M855… |
Ammo porn… Nice! |
Just out of curiosity how heavy was the fat .50 can with 1830 rounds in it. |
Now, put them in round by round and stack them neatly and see how many more a can will hold when done that way. I’d bet quiet a bit more…. …. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
Why didn’t you leave the ammo in the boxes? |
Quoted: Why didn’t you leave the ammo in the boxes? Thats what he will be doing for the next 5 hours, putting them back into the boxes. Nice looking ammo indeed. |
A normal .50 holds 1110 rounds of IMI M193 boxed. Wonder how much better it’d do stacked, i’m guessing closer to 1400. |
I have a 5.56mm can that’s labeled “M193 900 rounds” that is currently holding a 1000 round bulk pack of Federal XM193 with a bit of room to spare |
You can get 1800 rounds of IMI in a fat fifty still in the box. |
Please do the same thing for 9mm now. |
Cool. I’ve heard it is best to remove them from the cardboard boxes for storage. Is that true? I have some IMI still in the boxes in the basement in a fat 50 can. When I take out a box the box feels sort of damp. I was wondering if it would be better to take them out of the boxes. |

But I just load I with a strip lula so it doesn’t matter if it’s in boxes or not. |
