A Central New York family returned to “Family Feud” for a third episode Friday and finally got to hear one of Steve Harvey’s hilarious reactions to a survey response.
The O’Gorman family from Oswego won $20,000 on Wednesday and another $890 on Thursday, but both episodes of the classic game show were relatively tame. Contestants have to guess popular answers to survey questions while “feuding” with another family, and a challenger from the Shaddix family came up with a pretty unpopular one.
“When you were a kid, name something your friends dared you to eat,” Harvey said in the second round.
“Dog poop,” Katie Shaddix said confidently.
The game show host raised an eyebrow and gently shook his head. The audience groaned.
“Where the hell do y’all live?” Harvey asked as everyone burst out laughing.
Dog poop was not on the board, but the Shaddix family — who is from Birmingham, Alabama — still won 72 points in the round with responses like “bugs,” “pet food,” “dirt” and “boogers.” The O’Gorman family had a chance to steal, but got a big red X when they guessed “glue.”
Harvey has hosted “Family Feud” since 2010 and frequently appears in clips on social media with funny reactions to contestants’ answers. The show’s official YouTube page posted the “dog poop” clip for everyone to enjoy:
Retired firefighter Sean O’Gorman, his wife Jill O’Gorman, and their children Kyra O’Gorman, Hannah Clark, and Huck Fitzgerald did better in the first round when Harvey asked “If they got desperate, name something Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus might burn to stay warm.” Some of the responses were dark, like elves and reindeer, while others made sense like toys, sleigh, Christmas trees, wrapping paper. Huck even made a good guess with coal, but it wasn’t in the survey responses; luckily the O’Gormans came away with 89 points.
But the Shaddix family also won the third and fourth rounds, easily naming “something you do with your spouse you don’t want your children to know about” (sex was No. 1) and filling in the blank for “The mugger was shocked when grandma whipped a ____ out of her bra” (gun was No. 1). The Shaddixes finished with more than 300 points and moved on to “Fast Money,” where they won $20,000.
The O’Gorman family lost in their third episode, but still took home $20,890 in total from their first two episodes.
That’s pretty good, considering that the O’Gormans told syracuse.com | The Post-Standard they didn’t have a game plan when they first applied to be on the show last year.
“We watched it just probably like a normal family does,” said Kyra O’Gorman, an accountant who now lives in Rochester. “It’s always on, I feel like, but we definitely weren’t… ‘Family Feud’ crazy fanatics.”

“We thought we did (have a strategy) and then we got there and were… maybe star-stuck, not really sure,” added Hannah, who’s currently getting her doctorate in clinical and school psychology at Roberts Wesleyan University. “We kind of were like deer in headlights but then we got ourselves together and we just knew we needed to be ourselves. And that means we were loud, which we are… lots of cheering and then we just had a lot of fun.”
Huck, who works at Novelis in Oswego, credited Harvey with making the contestants all feel comfortable on the set, making them feel like there wasn’t too much pressure even with prizes at stake.
“It’s a fun, silly game and I hope that what comes through is how much we love each other and how much fun it is to be with your family and to do silly fun things,” Jill agreed.
The family said they would “share the wealth” from any prize money they took home. Jill said they have three more kids that didn’t compete on the show, and would want to take the family on a vacation somewhere.
“Family Feud” airs weeknights at 7 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Syracuse area on CBS 5 (WTVH); episodes can also be streamed with fuboTV, Paramount+, Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV Stream, or YouTube TV.
