Crowned the “King of Rock and Roll,” Elvis Presley was most famous for his music. Born in 1935 to Gladys and Vernon Presley in Tulepo, Mississippi, Presley displayed quite a bit of talent from a young age. Elvis played by ear — he never received any formal music training, and he couldn’t read music — and he brought down the house with his first concert on July 30, 1954, when he was only 19.

Presley served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and went on to marry Priscilla Ann Beaulieu in 1967. The couple welcomed a daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1968. Presley had quite a film career as well, appearing in over 30 movies over the course of his life.

There’s no question that Presley’s too-short life was an extraordinary one.
