The new Gems progression chart (still has 14 levels but with remodeled appearances):
–>
compared to the old model chart:
From the previous 8 types in BlizzCon2010, you have the:
1. Chipped
2. Flawed
3. Normal
4. Flawless
5. Radiant
6. 3 Square_(Square, Flawless Square & Radiant Square)
7. 3 Round_.(Round., Flawless Round.. & Radiant Round)
8. 3 Star___.(Star, __Flawless Star__.. & Radiant Star)
The new chart still has 8 types (w/c I think has a much better progressive transition):
1. lvl 1: Chipped
2. lvl 2: Flawed
3. lvl 3: Regular (Round shaped)
4. lvl 4: Flawless (Pear shaped)
5. lvl 5: Perfect (Triangle shaped)
6. lvl 6: Radiant (Triangle shaped)
7. 4 Square (lvl.. 7: Square lvl.. 8: Flawless Square lvl.. 9: Perfect Square. & lvl 10: Radiant Square)
8. 4 Star__.(lvl 11: Star_… lvl 12: Flawless Star__ lvl 13: Perfect Star__. & lvl 14: Radiant Star)
From the old model before, Jay said that only the first 5 would drop in the Diablo world & the rest would be upgrades from the Jeweler. That is still the case now.
What do they plan for the new gem models’ system?
–> Is it the first 6 gems now that will drop in the world?
–> Or would it be that the first 5 gems will drop in the world and the Radiant (triangle) will be an additional that only drops in Inferno?
Most likely:
–> Chipped & Flawed gems will drop in Normal difficulty
–> Regular & maybe Flawless in Nightmare
–> Then we might see a glimpse of the Perfect gem in Hell
Also, if you have the 14th level gem upgrade, will it be distinct, like will it sparkle on the item you socketed it into whenever you check the icons on the paper doll in the Character UI page?
–> Some distinction should be noticeable so that other players will know that I have a Radiant Star gem on a particular gear or weapon.
What stats are we expecting to see?
–> Topaz added lightning damage before, which I’m not sure now.
–> Is Sapphire now a permanent life steal instead of the awesome cold damage when I socket it in weapons before?
–> Is Emerald an increase in spell cast rate now instead of the poison damage before?
–> Likewise, is Ruby a permanent increase in spell damage instead of the fire damage before?
It seems that gems do not give elemental damage anymore, when I think it would have been better for that extra elemental damage we could benefit from.
I most especially like the cold damage that has the chance to freeze the monsters I hit and slow them down, which is so cool.
We had no update from the 2011 GamesCon.
09-26-2011 Our latest update that confirmed these facts came from Winged’s article, It’s Only Natural, dated 09-23-2011, with the gem tier level chart:
Although, they now gave that ability to the Mystic. When you level up your Mystic, it can learn Magic Mystic Formulas like:
–> Enhance 1H Weapon – Minor Frost – Teaches the Mystic how to enhance a 1H Weapon to deal minor Cold Damage to monsters.
–> Enhance 1H Weapon – Major Frost – Teaches the Mystic how to enhance a 1H Weapon to deal major Cold Damage to monsters.
–> Enhance 1H Weapon – Superior Frost – Teaches the Mystic how to enhance a 1H Weapon to deal superior Cold Damage to monsters.
–> Scorching – Fire dmg
–> Blight – Poison dmg–> Cosmos – Arcane dmg
–> Brutality – Crit Hit dmg
–> Celerity – Increase in Haste
–> Gore – Increase in Min & Max dmg
.
