Good thing we are rating the blade and not my Circut skills because what I had in my mind did not translate into a good item. I made a total mess of my project LOL.

Aside from that, this blade performed outstandingly. As you can see from the pictures, it cut all the way through the 1/16 thickness Basswood using the settings Circut suggests:

1. Purple Mat

2. Taped down all edges

3. Cutting Blade

4. Selecting the appropriate material and appropriate thickness

These settings gave this project 14 passes. At the end of the passes the wood was cut and so was my mat!

I saw some reviewers complained about a few things and I saw that Circut addressed a lot of this stuff:

1. It squeaks while cutting – This can happen if particles get into the gears. Once the project is done, take a soft brush and clean it out.

2. It stopped working/blade broke – Before the cutting begins Circut advises these issues can occur if the settings don’t match the material being used.

It also advises due to the nature of materials being cut, the knife blade will dull faster than the other types of blades. That makes perfect sense to me, but I am glad they set the proper expectation.

My conclusion…this blade works just as expected and I am super pleased it is half the price if you bought directly from Circut or one of the crafting stores. I may just buy another one of these to have on hand for when this one gets to be too dull for effective use.

Go ahead and buy in confidence. Just make sure you have the MAKER and you make the correct material selection and thickness before cutting.

Now it is time to really learn how the Circut works so the ideas in my head actually come out right LOL

ORIGINAL REVIEW:

This review will be done in 2 separate parts. Part one will be fit/calibration and part 2 will be on the actual cutting. This is because I am not ready to cut my project, but I wanted to give immediate feedback on the fit.

Reading so many reviews had me nervous about getting this because people were saying it didn’t fit or it wouldn’t calibrate. I know this is an actual Cricut branded product because you can click on the link for the Cricut store so I wasn’t worried this was a knockoff product.

Mine came sealed and packaged very well. I popped it in my Cricut MAKER and started the calibration. NOTE: You are to use copy paper for calibration. Please see the video for the calibration process (please forgive the movie playing in the background. It’s Life with Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence so there was a bit of cussing near the end).

Once the calibration cuts were done, the system asked which cut line gave the cleanest cut. As you can see from the picture, it was the 7th cut line. I selected that from the dropdown and bam, calibration was complete.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this blade. My guess is the people having issues with it do not have the MAKER. Please remember this blade is only to be used in the MAKER.

In the next day or so I will be testing out some 12 x 8 basswood with 1/16 thickness and we shall see if it actually cuts it and if the blade holds up.

For now, I am giving this blade 5 stars for its fit and calibration.
