After a good deal of manifesting and even more hard work, BTS have finally scored their first big Grammy nomination with their chart-topping single “Dynamite.”
On November 24, Megan Thee Stallion announced BTS’s nomination in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category. The South Korean septet is nominated alongside Justin Bieber and Quavo’s “Intentions,” Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me,” Taylor Swift and Bon Iver’s “Exile,” and J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy’s “Un Día (One Day).”
This is technically BTS’s second nomination overall, after being nominated for Best Recording Package for the artwork of Love Yourself: Tear during the 61st Grammys. While that first nomination certainly didn’t go unnoticed, being recognized for their music is nothing short of momentous. And to say it’s long overdue would be an understatement.
According to PinkVilla, Recording Academy voting member Natalie Nicole confirmed the group had submitted “Dynamite” for Record and Song of the Year, Best Music Video, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance; while their 20-track album Map of the Soul: 7 had been submitted for Album of the Year, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, and Best Pop Vocal Album. While the septet did not score a nod in the big four categories, this acknowledgment is certainly a cause for celebration.
Shortly after news of the nomination broke, four-sevenths of the group (leader RM, Jungkook, Jimin, and V) took to Twitter to share their unfiltered reaction with ARMY. In the short clip, the four members can be seen quite literally biting their nails from the anticipation. Once their name is called, an explosion of joy. “Wow…. Shhhh…,” RM can be heard saying amid Jungkook’s euphoric claps before the video cuts.
The caption? A very fitting and all-encompassing: “Ohmmmmmmyyyyyyyyggghghhhhhhhgggggggggdhdhsjsixudbslsogbdsisgshdbxidjdbdidhdifjfiri.” Accompanied, of course, by the hashtags #GRAMMYs and #BTS. They have officially made history as the first South Korean act to be nominated for the storied American awards.
