Blinking red router not wanting to connect to the internet. Any ideas what to do? I’ve already tried replacing the Ethernet cable connecting them and refit the router and motem both.
Disconnect the power from the modem, then the router. Reconnect the modem, then wait until the top two lights are solid blue. Then connect the router. Once it’s light is blue, your various laptops, desktops, printer(s), security system, and smartphones should connect within the next minute.
If not, call Spectrum Customer Service, inform them what is going on, and what you have done, and then let them know it seems the issue is either on the box the utility box on the outside of your home, or it’s the connector by the roadside.
What if the lights on the modem switch to white and blue? Do I just continue waiting or is there something I need to change? Any help would be appreciated.
I have the same gateway, and it sucks. The issue is not the cable side, but the connection between your router and the gateway.
The gateway locks to the MAC address on the network side (your router)£∆ so every time you change the connection on the LAN side, it acts as if there is no connection to the internet.
Disconnect and unplug the router from power.
Reboot the gateway until you get the solid blue light after the whiteblue pulses.
Reconnect the router Repower the router.
After the router boots, you should have a connection to the internet.
I’ve been having the same problem for a week now. Cuts out, I pull both power lines, wait 10 secs, replace, and it boots up fine. But then anywhere from 15 mins to a few hours and it drops again.
The tech came out on Wednesday and replaced the cable line from the wall, the modem and router (same as those in your pic) and the cat cables. He said that should fix it, and it worked fine for about 30 mins after he left.
So now I have another tech coming Sunday morning to check the lines/ box in the basement of my apartment.
tl;dr- same thing for a week, reboots but then craps out again.
Modem is locked in, blinking red indicates non-connectivity or critical issues on router. Follow the suggestions in this thread to reboot both in a certain order and if that doesn’t get that red to turn solid blue than something is fucked with the router and you’ll need a hardware swap.
These routers suck but I don’t think there’s anything worse than a 5260
I had the same issue, and I just called spectrum and they reset the router over the air and it worked after that.
