Bathroom Remodeling Trends – Removing Privacy Walls

NCHomeRemodeling sees several trends in bathroom remodeling. One trend, Jack and Jill bathrooms, are shared bathrooms between two bedrooms. These bathrooms are pass-through style with two entry doors. Often, the tub and/or shower and toilet is separated by a wall with a separate door, making three doors in the bathroom. This would allow the vanity to be used by one person while another person can use the showering area and still maintain privacy. More often than not, this creates a cramped bathroom without effective use of space.

In this bathroom, three doors and the divider wall took up valuable space. The tub was rather short and narrow and because of the privacy wall, the toilet was uncomfortably close to the tub and privacy door.

The first step in this bathroom transition is to remove the divider wall! Already, the bathroom feels so spacious! The toilet is moved over several inches to allow room for a new and larger tub.

A ceramic floor tile is installed in a plank pattern to give the room a lengthened appearance. The colors are neutral, coordinating well with grey and taupe tones. The homeowner selected a ladder-style shelving system to place behind the toilet for storage and décor display.

A new vanity with center tower and décor side panel is installed. The doors and drawers are soft-close. Corner feet are added to the vanity to give it an appearance of a furniture style vanity without the worry of having to clean a void under the vanity. The lighting is kept small, and the unframed mirrors introduce shape without being bulky. Shiny chrome fixtures are used in this bathroom. The faucets are from the Delta Cassidy collection. Vanity hardware in a style similar to the Cassidy is used on the vanity.

The new curved soaking bathtub is perfect for relaxing. The tile is extended to the ceiling, and a beautiful floral shaped tile is installed in the niche to give this bathroom character. The existing transom window is trimmed in PVC for easy care. The two-in-one shower head is a newer product available through Delta. The rain head and hand held combo is both functional and updated. An easily removable soap dish can be transitioned for shower or tub use with ease.
