Addressing Envelopes on Your Cricut
LEARN HOW TO ADDRESS ENVELOPES USING THE CRICUT PENS AND ENVELOPES YOU MAKE OR BUY AT THE STORE
By now, you all should know I love to make cards. It has become one of my favorite things to do. While I prefer to give them to the recipient in person, I have been mailing a lot this year. So, I thought I would show everyone how I choose to address envelopes on a Cricut.
Now, this topic has been requested by readers of the blog for a while. It only makes sense to include show how to address the envelopes from the cards we make here, right?
In this lesson, we will use writing fonts in Cricut Design Space. If you don’t know what writing fonts are or need a refresher on the Cricut Pens, check out my tutorial here.

Option #1: Make an Envelope and Attach Text
STEP 1 – DOWNLOAD THE SVG CUT FILE
Download the SVG Cut file for the Envelopes (#67) from The File Vault. Click here to get access to the library.
Note: Within the download, you will find several envelope cut files. I have included A2, A6, A7, and #10 sized envelopes for you, as well as a printable PDF. For this tutorial, I am using the A7 size envelope.
STEP 2 – UPLOAD THE SVG FILE TO CRICUT DESIGN SPACE
If you aren’t familiar with uploading SVG files into Design Space, take a look at my quick and easy tutorial here. Using your smartphone? Click here for my step-by-step guide on uploading SVG files with the Cricut App.
STEP 3 – PREP THE ENVELOPE AND ADD TEXT
Before you can add text to this envelope, DETACH the score lines from the cut.
Now, click the Text Tool in the sidebar.
Type out your recipient’s information. Duplicate the layer and add the sender’s information.
Note: Choose a font that has a writing style and make sure that style is selected.
STEP 4 – POSITION THE TEXT ONTO THE ENVELOPE
Move the text boxes onto the envelope and position them where you prefer.
Highlight both text boxes and align them using the ALIGN tool bar. I am choosing Center Horizontally.
Now, highlight the entire design.
Attach the layers together by selecting ATTACH in the lower right corner of the layers panel.
Rotate the envelope until it takes on more of a square shape rather than a diamond.
Now, for some reason, during my testing for this tutorial, Design Space liked it better when I rotated the envelope back to more of a square. It must read the sizing differently.
If I left the envelope as is in the picture above, it would tell me to use a larger piece of cardstock and the 12 x 24 inch cutting mat.
Click the GREEN Make It button.
STEP 5 – CUT AND ASSEMBLE YOUR ENVELOPE
After choosing your materials, prep your mat and load it into your Cricut. Follow the prompts from Design Space to change out the different tools.
Add glue or adhesive the the side flaps of the envelope and you are ready to go!
OPTION #2: Use a Pre-Made Envelope
STEP 1 – DOWNLOAD THE PDF FILE
Download the PDF Reference Guide for Envelopes (#67) from my FREE Resource Library. Click here to get access to the library.
STEP 2 – REVIEW THE PDF FOR APPROPRIATE ENVELOPE SIZE
I have several of the most common envelope sizes listed in the Reference Guide. Note the size of the envelope for the pre-made envelope you have on hand.
STEP 3 – CREATE YOUR ENVELOPE MOCK UP
Now that you have size of your envelope, select the square from the SHAPES tool in the side bar.
Adjust the size by unlocking the square and setting the height and width in the sizing tool bar.
STEP 4 – ADD TEXT AND POSITION ON THE ENVELOPE
Type out your recipient’s and sender’s information using a writing font in Cricut Design Space.
Move the text boxes onto the envelope mock up to verify placement.
After you have the text positioned the way you like, select both text layers in the layers panel and click ATTACH in the bottom right.
Note: Do not attach the envelope mockup layer to the text. This will tell Design Space you want to cut out a rectangle which is not what you want to do. Don’t ruin those envelopes!
Click the GREEN Make It Button.
In the mat preview, move the envelope down to where the 1 inch lines cross.
To understand the reason behind moving the mockup, take a look at the video tutorial above.
Now drag the text on top of the mock up and position where you choose.
Click the three dots next to the envelope mock up and click HIDE SELECTION.
Click CONTINUE.
STEP 5 – PREPARE YOUR MAT AND ADDRESS THE ENVELOPE
When preparing your mat, make sure to line up the corners of your envelope based on how you positioned everything in the mat preview. Here, I am lining up the top left corner at the the cross point of the 1 inch marks.
Load your mat and click the flashing “C” button to address the envelope.
Now, I hope you have a better understanding of how to address envelopes with your Cricut.
A FEW MORE THINGS ABOUT ADDRESSING ENVELOPES
- I know my preferred way to do this is using the first option, however, I know a lot of people use envelopes from the store.
- The second option works great but, sometimes, if you don’t line up everything exactly right, your text can be a little off or a little crooked.
- There may be a little trial and error ESPECIALLY using the second option.
- Try different tip sizes or calligraphy pens to change up the look of the addressing.
