Thomas Brodie-Sangster opened up about being rejected from the Harry Potter franchise – and our minds are blown.
While we now couldn’t imagine anyone else playing Ron Weasley except for Rupert Grint, the Love Actually actor revealed he had actually missed out on the role.
Yes, seriously.
Thomas had auditioned for 2001 film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and, speaking about the rejection, the 30-year-old revealed the knock-back really impacted him.
Recalling the audition, aged just 10, he told Radio Times: ‘It was my first experience of rejection and hit me quite hard. I had feelings of anger and frustration, but I couldn’t really put the blame on anyone for not giving me the role.
‘I do remember thinking, though, that the next time I went for an audition, I’d have to put up a shield to stop myself from getting hurt.
‘It was the last time I ever felt like that, so whatever I did seemed to work.’
While the rejection must have been hard for the actor to handle at such a young age, he went on to star in some of the biggest screen hits just a few years later.
In fact, Thomas’ acting CV includes Love Actually, Game of Thrones, Nanny McPhee and The Maze Runner.
He’ll next be on screen in new Netflix series The Queen’s Gambit, alongside Anna Taylor-Joy.
In the limited series, based on Walter Tevis’ novel of the same name, the actor will be starring as arrogant chess prodigy Benny, who has a huge rivalry with incredible chess player Beth.
Harry Potter star Harry Melling and Bill Camp round out the cast, with the show releasing on the platform on October 23.
