If you’re a Yellowstone fan, you’re certainly not at a loss for shows to binge while season 5 is on hiatus. You can watch the wildly popular prequels, 1883 and 1923, or a whole host of other Taylor Sheridan shows and movies. And lucky for us, the world is getting yet another series inspired by the original—a spinoff called 6666 was announced for Paramount+ and oh goodness, it’s exciting.
According to Entertainment Weekly, this new iteration will surround the Four Sixes Ranch in West Texas. You may be wondering: What is the name all about? According to the official logline provided to TVLine, “The 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing … The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world-class cowboys are born and made.”
We bet Ladd will enjoy this one!
What has been confirmed about the 6666 show?
Taylor Sheridan is the executive producer (of course), and he’s been very tight-lipped about the series. However, there has been a trickle of information, and it’s likely that 6666 will have some connection to the original Yellowstone characters. Eek!
- The series follows the lives of cowboys living and working on the historic 6666 Ranch in West Texas.
- A Sheridan-led investment group purchased the real-life 6666 Ranch for more than $320 million in 2020.
- Executive producers for the show include Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David Glasser, Ron Burkle, and Bob Yari.
- The title of the show and the ranch are pronounced: “Four Sixes.”
- There is no official release date for 6666, however, we can expect it in late 2023 or early 2024.
Is 6666 a real ranch?
So, the crazy part of the whole 6666 show is that it will be filmed on a real-life functioning cattle ranch! As the Four Sixes Ranch website notes, “[it’s] part of the famous Burnett Ranches LLC, which was among the most storied family-run businesses in Texas history.”
Their story dates back to 1870 when Captain Samuel “Burk” Burnett purchased 100 cows with the “6666” brand. Burnett Ranches ultimately encompassed just over 260,000 acres, which included the Four Sixes Ranch headquarters and the Dixon Creek Ranch—both located in West Texas (where Taylor Sheridan is from!). The ranch was eventually passed down to Burnett’s great-granddaughter, Anne Burnett Marion, who passed away in 2020.
Who from Yellowstone is going to 6666?
As Yellowstone fans know, we already got a sneak peek of the ranch when Jimmy was sent to the Four Sixes in season 4. John Dutton’s effort to get him into cowboy shape finally worked in West Texas, and Jimmy was a different man when he finally returned. During Yellowstone season 5, Jimmy received John’s blessing and returned to the Four Sixes to be with his fiancé, Emily. And since Sheridan seems to be developing their backstories, there’s a good chance that both characters might make the spin-off crossover.
The second big plot point from Yellowstone that gives us a 6666 hint is the dire situation facing the Dutton cattle. The first half of season 5 ended with an impossible decision for John: relocate half of their herd to land leased from the Four Sixes Ranch or let them die from Brucellosis. Episode eight ends with Rip, Ryan, Teeter, Walker, and Jake on duty to take the herd South for a prolonged period. We’ll see if this actually takes the cowboys to the Four Sixes, or if another twist will come their way!
