The Manaphy Egg is a blueish egg which holds the Mythical Pokémon Manaphy whilst it is in stasis. It is also available in various main games and spinoffs via in-game events.
Description
The Manaphy Egg is an event item which can allow for the player to receive the Legendary Pokémon Manaphy. First received through a special code in Pokémon Ranger, the player could transfer it to the Generation IV games and hatch it. Similar missions to obtain a Manaphy egg in the Generation IV games were available to download on to both Pokémon Ranger: Shadows of Almia and Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs for a limited time through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
In Pokémon Ranger, the Manaphy egg washes ashore on a beach, where Murph picks it up. When he takes it to Professor Hastings, several Go-Rock members steal the Egg, resulting in a search for it. After the player safely returns the egg, Hastings reveals that the egg can only hatch if it is given to a Trainer in a faraway region.
Although present in the code, the Manaphy egg has not been available in games after Generation IV.
In the Movies
The Manaphy Egg has a pivotal role in the events of Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea, being the item sought after by The Phantom and his organisation. Kept secret by the People of the Water, the Manaphy Egg awaited the one which would awaken it from its egg form. The egg is also very fragile, and resembles a transparent blue egg with a floating red sphere in its center and several yellow dots in orbit around it.

Also, the Manaphy Egg is notable for being able to use a move whilst in Egg forme. This is shown when Team Rocket attempts to steal the Manaphy Egg, only for it to glow a bright red color. Their bodies then become connected through a series of red tendrils. This results in Jessie, James and Meowth essentially swapping bodies due to Manaphy’s Heart Swap move.
When May catches the Manaphy Egg to prevent it from hitting the ground, the egg glowed with a bright light, resulting in the birth of Manaphy. Due to the principle of imprinting, Manaphy believed that May was its mother as it hatched from within its egg, due to the fact that newborn creatures commonly believe the first thing they set eyes upon is their mother.
The primary reason in which The Phantom desired the Manaphy Egg was due to the fact that the Manaphy species are born with the ability to instinctively find their way back to the place of their birth, Samiya, which is the location of the Sea Crown, a rare treasure found in the Sea Temple. In the movie the Manaphy Egg was hidden by the People of the Water in a special container which, on the push of a button, would conceal its contents.
