“Am I The Jerk For Buying A Separate Fridge For Our Garage And Putting A Lock On It To Keep My Husband Out?”
Pregnancy can be a very demanding time for a person. They may experience a range of physical symptoms such as nausea, fatigue, and back pain, as well as emotional changes due to hormone fluctuations. Because of this, it is very important for their partner to provide support and understanding during this period.
But sadly, the woman who made this post on the subreddit ‘Am I the Jerk?‘ feels like her husband isn’t there for her as much as he could be. You see, the man keeps eating her snacks. And while it might sound like a minuscule detail, food has become a source of great comfort for the woman, and since she’s the only one going shopping, she thought her husband could stay off her pizzas and pickles.
So she confronted him about it. But he didn’t listen. They got into a fight, and it was so bad that afterward, she thought the only way to settle the conflict was for her to get a separate fridge and lock it up.

There are a few theories behind why pregnancy causes our palates to demand certain foods.
Pregnancy is a time of profound hormonal changes, especially during the first trimester. Like PMS times a million. Similarly to what happens to you when you are expecting your period, the hormones of pregnancy might change the types of cravings you experience — they can affect your sensory experience of food, your sense of smell, and your mood, all of which determine what type of foods you crave.
Many people say they turned into bloodhounds during pregnancy—able to smell things from a mile away, and easily overwhelmed by smells. Foods with strong and pungent smells may be total turn-offs. But at the same time, foods with pleasant, fragrant smells may be of increased interest.
Also, pregnant people have an increased need for nutrients such as calcium and iron. Because of that, you may find yourself reaching for foods that are rich in these ingredients.
But some simply crave the foods that give them a feeling of comfort, such as sweets and carbs. For example, when you experience nausea during pregnancy, you may crave the kinds of foods you eat when you aren’t feeling well.
Another interesting thing about cravings is that the culture we grew up in can color our own desires for certain foods. For example, when it comes to PMS, U.S. women tend to crave chocolate the most, whereas women in Japan tend to crave rice. The same sorts of patterns are true when it comes to pregnancy cravings.
So going through your pregnant partner’s snack stash without planning to restock should be a huge no-no.

The most critical aspect of conflict affecting the health of a relationship is its resolution. There will always be disagreements and differences of opinion of one kind or another. However, to avoid a loss of trust, damage to intimacy, or behavior that further upsets the relationship, a couple needs to make sure that the resolution does not leave lingering hurt or resentment in one or both of them.
And judging from the updates, it sounds like this couple have managed to work things out. The original poster didn’t specify how they did it, but I bet it involved a healthy mix of active listening and apologies. And they will probably come out of it even stronger.
While you need to avoid unnecessary conflict, it is helpful to develop an environment in which you and your partner can flourish and adopt a compassionate, trusting outlook that aids healing when conflict is unavoidable.
People were appalled by the husband’s initial behavior

Always hungry, always eating, AND losing weight. The last part is especially concerning to me.
Doctor. My wife had the same problem. She had gestational diabetis.
Yes, definitely something to bring up to the OB and the next appointment. She’s going to need some blood tests done
One thing I didn’t see mentioned is that the husband is eating food the wife paid for with her money, since their accounts aren’t mingled, for FREE. Then he tells her to go buy more with HER money, when HE should replace what he ate with his own damn cash! Also, looking at the update where he got her food, flowers, and a card, it sounds to me like he went and bitched to a friend or his father or someone else, but instead of validating his side, they set his sorry a*s straight on how to be the husband of a pregnant woman—-and future father of a baby. An attitude like his will HAVE TO go out with the trash when he becomes not just a husband but also a father. For his wife’s and child’s sake, I hope he stays straightened out. She should kick his sorry a*s to the curb if he starts eating food meant for the baby when the kid graduates to solid food.
This is a really good example of why i have no desire to get married… dont touch my damn food (and I’m not even pregnant) 🤣
It’s not marriage that’s the problem…it’s who you marry. I’ve been divorced twice, but people who know this ask how are you not/didn’t pay alimony? I tell them, I don’t marry those types of women. They either don’t understand or I blow their minds. If your partner doesn’t understand what the word compromise means….it’s not going to work out.
