SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WOWK) — Day three of testimonies began on January 9, 2020, in the murder trial of Daniel and Jessica Groves who are being charged with murder after their infant son, Dylan was found 30ft down a well in Scioto County, Ohio in June of 2019.
Two volunteer firefighters described the day they were called out to a field in Otway, Ohio to help retrieve baby Dylan’s body. At one point one of the firefighters became emotional as he described reaching into the well and pulling out two milk crates filled with rocks chained together with Dylan’s body inside.

The medical examiner who performed Dylan’s autopsy, Dr. Susan Brown, was called to the stand earlier today and the courtroom spectators were warned the photos of Dylan’s body, would be extremely graphic. Some members of both the jury and spectators in the courtroom visibly had a difficult time viewing evidence, which showed numerous *complete fractures* to his arm and leg and a nearly two-inch skull fracture that shows signs of healing while he was alive. Dr. Brown says many of these injuries show signs of “blunt force trauma”. Traces of drugs were also found, but a full cause of death could not be determined because the body had been in the well for days.
“This is a lot of work a large extent to go through in order to conceal this child’s body so it could not be found,” said Dr. Brown.
Dylan’s older teenage sibling testified that he saw bruising on the baby’s head before the baby disappeared for some time. He also testified several times he was asked to provide urine for his father, Daniel Groves who was being monitored by Children’s Services for drug addiction.
Finally, a video presented from the interrogation room of Daniel and Jessica Groves before Dylan’s body was discovered along with audio recordings of Jessica Groves from jail.
Prosecutors stated on the record that they don’t plan to call any more witnesses. Court will reconvene tomorrow morning at 8:30.
