How To Get HM03 Surf in Pokémon FRLG

In FireRed & LeafGreen, you get HM03 Surf from a man standing inside the Secret House in the last area of the Safari Zone. You can obtain this HM as soon as you reach Fuchsia City.

You’ll just need to pay 500 Pokédollars to enter the Safari Zone first.

We’ll show you exactly how to reach this Secret House as quickly as possible.

HM03 Surf Location (Step-by-Step)

Step 1: Start in Fuchsia City outside the Pokémon Center, and walk north to reach the Safari Zone.

Step 2: Enter the Safari Zone and pay the 500 Pokédollars.

In the Safari Zone, you are only allowed 500 steps until the timer runs out. At that point you’ll be returned to the entrance.

Step 3: Once inside the Safari Zone, head east & north until you reach the entrance to the next area.

Tip: You can use Repels/Super Repels/Max Repels while inside the Safari Zone. This can help you move faster by avoiding wild Pokémon along the way.

Step 4: In the next area, keep heading east past the bushes.

Step 5: Once you reach the stairs leading up to a small hill, go up and head west to the next set of stairs.

Step 6: Go down the stairs on the other side, and then head north.

Step 7: Move north and up another set of stairs, then head east on the small elevated hill.

Step 8: Go down another set of stairs on the other side here, then circle around to the back of this hill.

Then move towards the west (running behind the hill you just crossed).

Step 9: Continue moving west until you enter the next area.

Step 10: In the next area, keep going west past the 1st set of stairs.

Step 11: Go through the grass and you’ll see a 2nd set of stairs. Go up these stairs onto the small elevated hill.

Step 12: From here, go down the next set of stairs to your left, then turn north going up through a small patch of grass.

Step 13: Keep going north until you hit some bushes, then head east past the trees.

Step 14: Go up and around the corner at the end, then start running west. This will bring you towards an open area.

Step 15: Head south past the trees and pools of water.

Step 16: Keep heading south until you find another exit – this will lead you towards the last area of the Safari Zone.

Step 17: In this new area, head west past the small sign.

Step 18: Continue west until you find a building. This is where you’ll find the NPC that gives you HM03.

Step 19: Enter the building and talk to the man inside. You’ll receive HM03 Surf as a prize for finding him.
