Symone Sanders, a chief spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris, will leave her post at the end of the year, reports said on Wednesday night.
Sanders, 31, had served as a senior adviser on Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign before taking the job at the White House.
“Symone has served honorably for three years,” a source told CNN. “The president and vice president are grateful for Symone’s service and advocacy for this White House. She is a valued member, a team player, and she will be missed.”
Sanders shared the move in a Wednesday night memo to staff, which was obtained by Politico.
“I’m so grateful to the VP for her vote of confidence from the very beginning and the opportunity to see what can be unburdened by what has been,” she wrote.
It’s unclear where Sanders will end up after leaving the administration.
The revelation of her planned departure comes after reports that Harris’ communication director, Ashley Etienne, would be leaving her job by December.
The staffing changes at the veep’s office were disclosed amid reports of tension in the White House between Harris and President Biden.
Harris, according to a CNN report, believes she’s not receiving a fair share of support and she and Biden have a dysfunctional relationship that has reached an “exhausted stalemate,” the network reported.
The vice president and the White House have disputed any internal strife.
