College GameDay’s feature on Nick Saban, Miss Terry working with Habitat for Humanity
Nick and Terry Saban were featured in an emotional feature on College GameDay that chronicled Tuscaloosa’s plight when a severe tornado hit the area in 2011.
The Alabama coach and his wife read letters from residents that had rebuilt their homes and lives since the massive storm tore through the area, killing 53 people and injuring over 1,200 more, according to NPR. The Saban family and Alabama’s football team were very involved in helping the survivors of the storm.
Saban’s foundation helped provide meals thanks to countless phone calls by Terry. Meanwhile, Nick addressed crowds of homeless with inspirational messages of rebuilding. Considering 12.5% of the city was destroyed, according to Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox, there was plenty of work to be done and plenty of residents that could use an encouraging word. It was the largest tornado in state history. Alabama players took on the physical chore of helping clean up the area.
Nick and Terry Saban knew they had to rebuild Alabama’s football program in 2007.
