Trikes or the Triceratops as we know them, are herbivores with a mean streak, and that makes them extremely valuable in Ark: Survivor Evolved. Not only are they amazing at farming large amounts of berries very quickly, their powerful lunch attack can take down some of the toughest carnivores. They also make great pack mules, able to carry huge amount of weight without breaking a sweat.
If you’re in the market for your first dinosaur, I highly recommend the Trike because of its power, large weight capacity, and it’s amazing berry farming that will make collecting enough Narcoberries to tame future pets that much easier.
We tamed our first Trike and documented the experience to help you do the same. Here’s how to tame a Trike!
Narcotics
Trikes are fairly large beasts and will thus require a good deal of Narcotics and even more Narcoberries if you can’t make Narcotics. For your average Trike you will want to have at least 50 Narcotics on hand, but always try to bring extra. There’s nothing worse than scrambling for Narcoberries with your dino on the verge of waking up.
If you choose to use Narcoberries, you better get picking because you’ll need around 120 of them. The problem with the berries is that they start to spoil rather quickly, while the Narcotics are good forever. Narcotics will also keep their taming efficiency up, giving the Trike a stat boost once it’s tamed.
Food/ Berries
Trike’s love berries, but more specifically Mejoberries and Azulberries. I hope you like berries too, because you’re going to need to pick at least 150 of them. Mind you they don’t all have to be the Trikes preferred berries, but the Mejo and Azul will tame them faster.
The exact amount of food required is different depending on the lvl of the dino and the type of berry. Always bring extra.
Knocking a Trike Out
If you can dodge their head but you can knock a Trike out somewhat easily with a lot of well-placed bunches to the head, or some stones to the dome via a slingshot. If you really want to put them out cold, opt for the tranquilizer darts.
You’ll need about 10 arrows to make sure the animal goes down, and always be sure to leave a few seconds in between each arrow so they have time to take effect. You can also use an arrow in an emergency situation to keep the Trike unconscious, but beware, this will also reduce the taming effectiveness.
The Taming Process
So long as the Unconscious meter stays around a safe area (usually half or above) and the Trike has a big batch of berries, taming is a breeze. It will take 45 mins to an hour and a half to tame most Trikes, again dependent on the level and the type of berry used.
Trikes are big bodies and will attract a lot of attention just lying there. Keep your eyes peeled for carnivorous dinos looking for an easy meal, or other players looking to grief you.
If you making through the taming process in one piece, congratulations! You will now never have to worry about running out of berries again.
